Quick question about neck pocket size
I know this is probably listed in like 100 threads but I need a quick answer so I can hopefully buy a body.
What is the correct width for a standard Tele body neck socket? Is it 2 3/16” (56 mm )? Many thanks.

Whenever it comes to dimensions, I check the Fender Shop drawing in Duchossoir's Fender book. Some of the data is unreadable (at least in my copy with my old eyes) but it looks like the Fender drawing gives the neck pocket width as 2.20/2.21 with and an 87 degree taper (+/- .25 degrees?).
I think the Down's print gives the length as 3.002 and the decimals are one of things I cannot read in the Fender book (which is 3 something..) So I guess the question is, what is the neck spec? If it's 2.1875, perhaps Fender cut the body was cut a little wider to account for speedy assembly (no hand fitting) as well as finish buildup. Also, the neck pocket length may no be super critical. I have a MIM body that measures 2 32/32" and the neck never fell off or anything. Cut it too short and the neck plate will start getting close to the edge (unless you drill the neck screw holes further back). |
