Dig the "Western Sugarcaster"!
I'm not a country-western player but - what the heck! - I thought I'd go ahead and build a Tele with a country-western flair to it. I'm really happy with how it turned out!
Started with a one-piece sugar pine body from Marc Rutters, tinted it with a few coats of amber shellac (Hock flakes in ethanol, applied with a Preval sprayer), and finished it off with clear gloss nitro lacquer. The neck is an Allparts TMO-V that I finished with Reranch tinted clear. ![]() The hand-tooled leather pickguard was made by M.K. Holloway from the Dallas area. M.K. is a true artist and a joy to work with! The custom leather strap was made for me by TDPRI's own Bob Schell of Brookwood Leathers. Bob was also a joy to work with. I sent him the guard and he was able to color-match the strap. Incredible quality too! ![]() Other particulars.... A fabulous set of Lollar Vintage T pickups in this guitar, Fender vintage bridge plate, Barden compensated saddles, and Gotoh vintage style tuners. She sounds great! Yaa-hoo! ![]() Thanks for lookin'! Rick |

Beautiful! I've never used shellac because I assume it's a lot of work, but that finish has me thinking about giving it a try some time.

Actually, you can spray/sand/buff shellac just like one would with nitro and it's a lot less work that nitro since shellac cures faster and goes on in fewer coats that dry much faster.

I just got a pickguard from M.K. Holloway. Not exactly like yours. That site is http://theothersideof635.blogsot.com. He makes some nice ones for Nashville and a '51 p Bass. I wish I could afford the Brookwood strap. Very nice combination. |

Some of my favorite things... Telecasters, Pine, Shellac, Nitro, leather and Princeton Reverbs...
My first pinecaster is the same formula... Pine, Shellac, Nitro, leather... http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...scaster-3.html |
