I had a USA strat neck on a MIM tele body. It fit fine width wise. I had to shim a little to get proper angle. Yes, intonation was fine. The problem was....it just didn't add anything to the sound. It's now on a Strat body and my dabbling in unnatural luthiery is ended.

+1, but I guess the customer is always right (well even if they're wrong ). But I agree, I always thought the tele headstock was one of the nicest Fender even developed. Its just got such nice smooth lines, but hey its a personal preference I guess.

Regards,

Rev. D.

Bit late to the party on this one, Clapton with Blind Faith:

And from Harmony Central, a guy had a Custom Shop replica of the above guitar built:

Yes, it will fit and intonate correctly. But you should know that a Strat neck has a rounded heel while a Tele neck has a squared off one. Strat and Tele bodies are routed accordingly. What this means is that if you fit a Strat neck to a Tele body, there will be two small gaps at the neck pocket, but a standard Tele pickguard will cover them.

In reverse, a Tele neck won't fit on a Strat body without the neck pocket being routed to accommodate the square Tele heel.

so.... a strat neck could be " squared off " to fit a tele neck pocket with a nice snug fit without major intonation issues ? there should be enough for and aft movement at the bridge to compensate ?

Yes, you could square one off to fit a Tele neck pocket, but any neck screw holes would then not quite line up. You'd probably have to fill and re-drill them, or you could I suppose move the body holes.

Would there be enough compensation at the bridge? Hmmmm....I'm guessing you'd lose about 1/8" at the neck, so yeah you "should" be able to compensate.
