Semi-Hollow Rhoney Starblaster
A while ago I started chatting with Paul Rhoney, a luthier from Portland, about building me a custom Starblaster. This is Paul's design refinement of the famed Fender Starcaster without the 70's cheese. The idea was to have him build me the semi-hollow body and neck with some specific/custom features and then ship it to me to finish and piece together. The guitar is kind of a culmination of everything I love about my other electrics: Semi-hollow body, 25.5" scale, cut Tele 3-barrel bridge, comfort of an offset body ala Jazzmaster.
Specs include: 2-piece Alder thinline body Slip-matched Hard Rock Maple top with binding Comfy thick Maple neck with Indian Rosewood fretboard and MOP markers I took over the project and: Finished the guitar and neck with Tru-oil. Used G.E. Smith-style Wilkinson 3-barrel bridge & GFS Vintage Split HBs I'll post some progress pics, but for now, here's the finished product. ![]() ![]() ![]()

Durn that's sweet. I like the clean take on the Starcaster. Are the pickups anything special or just recent Fender WRHBs?

The pickups are the GFS take on the Fender WRHB. These are a bit brighter than regular HBs you'd find in Les Pauls or the like. The guitar seems to be very versatile. The brighter pickups coupled with the body construction and scale length make it clearer than a 335 with more chime.
