Conversion neck information needed
I have been asked to build a 24.75" conversion neck for a F style body. I haven't done the math yet, but its obvious that I need to move the fingerboard toward the bridge by 3/4".
Does anyone have a conversion neck they can take some measurements of? I guess a few measurements are required. I assume the neck is shorter by some amount. What is the measurement from the heel to the nut? And what is the measurement of the heel to the 21st fret (or maybe its the 20th fret?) Which ever is still on the wood and not as part of the overhand. Any help would be great. Joe |

If you're talking about a Telecaster, the bridge has such a large intonation adjustment range you probably don't have to do anything other than make a 21 fret neck with a 24.75 in. scale.
Let's have a look at the numbers. Typical neck pocket to center saddle(s) on a Telecaster is ~7 in. Use the StewMac fret calculator and put in 22 frets even though you're planning 21. The 22 fret distance would be the end of the neck heel. We get 17.805. The 12th fret is at 12.375. 17.805 - 12.375 = 5.430 in. (Distance from fret 12 to end of neck) 5.430 + 7 = 12.430 in. (fret 12 to middle saddle(s)) This only differs from the desired 12.375 by 0.055 in. (less than 1/16 in.) And you thought those neck builders had some sort of secret for building their conversion necks.
