Stewmac tele necks?
I built a partscaster (tele) from Drparts parts but the neck is lousy in many ways and I am looking for a decent replacement. Any experiences with Stewart-MacDonald tele necks? They at least seem to be reasonably priced (+ taxes and delivery to Finland...).

As far as I know SM necks are made by Mighty Mite. I've had a couple and the quality was fine except for a cheap plastic nut. Wouldn't it be cheaper to get parts from Allparts UK? http://www.allparts.uk.com/about-us-c-305.html

Actually no, I can get a Stewmac neck (with delivery and taxes added) cheaper than an Allparts neck from UK.

i payed about $90 each for mighty mite necks from ebay. i have bought 4 so far, and for the price they´re absolutely great. i have bought from either dancing dragon music or gman music , as their shipping costs to Denmark is usually very low ($15-18).

I have one of the Mighty Mite "premium" two-piece birdseye maple necks with a nicely figured fingerboard. It's a looker, especially at the $120 US price I paid for it.
Construction seems good. Nut is plastic as others have pointed out. Finish is very thin. I would also point out, though, that the fret material seems a little soft. I've seen this mentioned elsewhere. After only a few months of my hamfisted style of playing, the frets in the cowboy chord area have the beginnings of divots. Allparts necks with comparable playing time show no such wear. Allparts necks can be purchased unfinished in the US for around $130, and the quality is excellent. Shellac and/or wipe-on poly takes no time to apply; the nut takes time to get right. This is my approach to paying bottom dollar for a great neck. Mighty-Mite is not a bad value, from what I've experienced myself and read in this forum.

The MMs I have used have been like Peavey was in the 70s and 80s. I've been out of the biz a long time so not sure where Peavey stands any more but where they sat, they were ok for the money. In other words to get a little better you had to pay a lot more. I've used these necks on some I've sold but they are not a premium neck by any stretch. Got to get rid of that sorry nut first. Then level and crown. I have enough work in one to justify spending twice as much to get a Musikraft or Guitar Mill neck that, 9 out of 10 times, are plug and play. ALL new necks can benefit from L&C but some will let you get by without it for a long time. An extra $90 is worth 3 hours of my time so unless I have to I won't use them anymore.
WD has some surprisingly decent necks in the pre-finished kind if you don't mind poly. They fall in between in my opinion. Not sure about shipping to you though.
