New Build! Alder Body/Maple Neck

Hey all!

First build post here, I am taking a course at a local woodshop building guitars based off the Telecaster style! We are working off the Grizzly Tele Kit, using all the included parts except the body, the instructor supplied us with freshly sawn, 3-piece laminated alder body blanks which we are to shape and form ourselves.

My design its a fattened and rounded out tele, with some strat style countours on the back, and PRS style contours on the cutaway, as well as a arm-rest contour. I'm going to wire the standard single coils like a Les Paul, with stacked pots to control individual pup volume and tone. I'm going for a natural finish, with some stain to darken up the wood and accentuate the grain, and some clear lacquer on top, then a custom cut pickguard (haven't decided the material yet).

I made a quick foam mockup to scale to check proportions and experiment with the body contours.

3 piece laminated Alder.

template to use later for my pickguard

which headstock fits best?

jl3297 -

didn't like your pg at first, but your pics of the finished project won me over - the pg shape really works well with the body shape and the white pearl/mots looks great with the rosewood fretboard - congrats on a job well done -

thanks! yeah i tried to reflect the body shape in the pickguard and have them work together, and yes i love the pearloid! the fretboard is actually walnut, not my decision just came like that in the grizzly kit =P it seems to have been treated with some kind of hardner as i cannot put a dent in it at all!
