GT's are great. I wonder how things were if Jimmy, Eric and Billy would have chosen to play GT's rather than Bursts...
I smell the return of the small fret goldies (-;

Mmm that's exactly how I like them... But seriously that is an awesome looking guitar, if I can even come close to your skills one day I'll be a happy man.

Gil, yeah it's a movie thing, and it's a rather sick thing...

It's one of those, "you have to have seen the movie" things, and now the joke is well awkward...

Oh well... if it's a nice movie I guess I'll have to watch it now.

Well... a burst with a natural back might look weird and the other way around (-;

Gil, Were some of the GT's gold on the back as well? I was looking at buying a '53 at a show, and the whole body was gold except for the binding...

Yes. The ones with flows got the all gold paint scheme but turned out to be a little problematic as the gold started to get green oxidation on the neck from wear and sweat. That oxidation caused the lacquer to peel off rapidly...
They switched to the dark backs instead soon after (-;
Regardless... when Ted McCarty asked Les Paul how he would like his model to look like he said he wanted it to be all gold, so in a sense, the all gold finish is the way Les initially saw it in his mind even though the very first ones had only the top painted in gold.
If you're buying one that is clean and don't plan on playing it every night in a crowded bar it would still be a great and beautiful guitar to have.

You may want to ask the owner to post some nice hi-res shots.

Good Lord!! That is my favorite burst style - and a perfect representation at that. I can't wait to finish these Teles so I can start working on my Les Paul templates.

You know, I usually like really vein-y, streaked fingerboards, and I've never understood why many Les Paul guys go nuts over super-dark rosewood, but the color on this guitar's fingerboard is simply amazing--it's deep and dark, but it doesn't look black. I'm starting to understand the whole "dark is great" thing. Well done!

That's very interesting.

I'm in the middle of a refinish right now on a Gibson 335 that had a badly damaged top (a bunch of deep gouges) I repaired. Since it has to have an opaque finish, I think I'm going to make it all gold.

I have a really great 2003 Gibson R6 that has a BRW board, and I think it would be pretty cool to have a matching 335. Especially now that I know that that's what Les Paul himself originally envisioned.

Strangely enough (and yet completely unrelated to my post a couple slots above) I have a rare All-Gold Yamano Gibson ES-335. I love it...but I'm selling it as my main semi-hollow is a '62 Epi Riviera. PM for details. I know this isn't the place for that, but perhaps this will bump my previous question!
