Beautiful GT Gil! I guess you used bronze powder instead of mica?

Thank you 335 Reasons.
Mica?!? on a GT? not in my book (-;
You can see the recipe for my gold color somewhere in this thread.
I posted it along with the 56 GT build. There's more than just bronze powder in there.

Here's a nice dark burst. Just had its first stage of the relic and will be completed tomorrow with additional mechanical damage (dings, edge chipping...etc...) but already looks rather nice.

Gil, Are you using only cherry pore filler on the back with clear lacquer? Or spraying some cherry lacquer on top of it?

Thanks and looks great!

I'm with Scatter Lee - really nice shelves. Wish I had shelves that looked that full...

I only have one Cherry color and it's a mix of red and blue aniline dyes + very little brown and black.
That guitar has an additional halo of dark brown on the top to get that darkburst scheme.

Gil, you have inspired me. I can't afford to buy what I want (59 Les Paul) so I'm going to build it. I Have a 3" thick x 13 7/8" wide by 24" long piece of hard maple, is there any reason I shouldn't/can't make a one piece top? I'll be using African mahogany for the one piece back. Thanks for all the lessons and info.

Why not? Maple is maple (-;
There were a few originals that came with 1 pc tops so it's historically accurate.
You'll need a pretty large band saw to resaw it though... I wish I had one of those MM 20's.

Yes Sir, I'm gonna have to use a mill here in town for both the re-sawing and planing. (I only have a 14" band saw and a 12" planer). But to be honest, I don't think I have room for that beast in my garage anyway.
