This looks like a good jigsaw, but is it?

Can it handle the pain of cutting a tele body?

Thanks,
Luke.

the only jigsaw i ever used that cut straight was a bosch. expensive, but worth it if you'll use it often.

Yes that Black and Decker looks decent. I see it has guide roller for the blade. It will probably work as well as any jigsaw given the inherent limitations of jigsaws.

If you can, go for a Makita, DeWalt, or Bosch (they will all last far longer than a B&D) and they can be had from many so called 'trade' shops (screwfix, toolstation, CPC and such)

I've had a Bosch Progressor for 10+ years, it's been a good tool for me.

If we're talking guitar building here, a jigsaw isn't really that great a tool so I would not invest a lot of money in a jigsaw. You'd be better off with a scroll saw if a bandsaw isn't in your current budget. I've cut out a Telecaster body from 1 3/4 in. maple with my Hitachi scroll saw just to prove it could be done. It just took a little longer ..... but not that much longer. Proper blade selection is the key.

Jig saws like the Bosch, Makita, or DeWalt cost as much or more than a decent scroll saw and are much less useful in electric guitar building.

The key is sturdy roller system for the blade IMO. My Old Bosch has a fan port to blow the saw dust off the line yo are cutting which is good too.

+1 on this
i used a JS on a couple early ones and invariably undercut the template on the underside if you cant afford to buy or find a bandsaw to use [its 5 minutes work to cut a body] put the money into a scroll saw [maybe half an hours work]
