Thanks guys!
Here's another bass, I made just the body, neck is Squier precision...

It has serial/parallel switch, it works great. Pickups are SD Basslines.

I take it that someone got you started down this road when you were like 5 years old, huh?

And you're only 19! I wish I was turning this kind of quality when I was your age.. Very impressive.

I'm glad I can't do finishes like that, 'cuz I would just stay in the house all day and stare at them. Wow! That is a mirror finish. The checkerboard and the contoured binding is out of this world.

Finish request

Robi these guitars are stunning. Would you care to share your finish methods with us. I for one am toiling , and am not at all sure my methods are ' correct' so I would be most grateful for any insight into you astonishing end results.

Cheers Mac

Sure.

You have to make sure that body is sanded with at least 360 grit paper. I use piece of cork for sanding. Wood is too hard, cork is softer and it presses the paper surface equally.

It's also important to have good spraying equipment. Buying expencive spraying gun isn't waste of money. I bought new sata spraying gun this year and it's great. I do everything with it, finishing and sunbursting.

Sanding between two coates is just like sanding the wood, but with finer paper. Before last coat I use 800 grit, and then very thin coat. One more sanding before polishing with 1000 and 2500 grit paper.

Unreal. Just plain unreal. I'm ashamed to show my finishes now.

Many thanks for that detailed reply. A couple more things , I may have missed them , What lacquer do you use and what size needle in your Sata. Is that a HVLP gun ? Thanks Mac

I use nitro or polyurethane lacquer from our local store.

Needle size is 1,6, it is a HVLP gun.
