Cooperative Project
OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE RULES OF THE FORUM THIS THREAD HAS A NEW TITLE.
THERE IS NO POLITICAL OR GOV AFFILIATED MESSAGE HERE NOR IS THERE ANY SPECIFIC MENTION OF THE GOOD INTENT. WE WILL ONLY DISCUSS AND POST PROGRESS OF A COORDINATED PROJECT. PLEASE PM ME FOR ANY DETAILS I have a project that should get all of our attention and should be especially captivating to those of us who've served. I've been thinking about this for some time but it's hard for me financially (and skillfully) to donate an entire quality guitar. So here is my idea: Collectively we are a very resourceful community. I am volunteering to organize a group of you who are willing to team up for said project The intent here is to create a true heirloom and documented creative story from rough cut lumber to high quality instrument. Discussion/ Volunteers? Last edited by CptRyg; December 15th, 2009 at 03:50 PM. Reason: Forum Rules |

After reading your PM about this, there should be no reason why we can't discuss the project within the forum rules. Just leave the discussion strictly to the build aspect of the project with no mention of the purpose in any way. If anyone is curious they can find out more about it by PM-ing you. Consider it just another build thread and handle it accordingly.

So let's open up the discussion here with some brain storming.
Style? Solid Body, Thinline, Carved Top... I like the idea of a thinline. Don't have to have an amp but it sure is nice if you do! It's a little extra work though... |

Okay, I will just restate what I put in my PM to you so everyone knows.
I have a lot of committments to live up to and very little free time... however, I would be able to provide a Cocbolo fretboard for the project. I would cut it to rough size, radius it (not compound), cut the fret lots and glue in some fret position markers. Thats about all I think I can contribute. As far as the rest is concerned I don't think it matters a lot what model it is as long as it's a Tele.

As long as it's a tele for sure!!
A fret board is a huge help! Looks like we've got a source for custom hardware too. This is a great start. I'm willing to start by puting $50 towards materials for anyone that wants to cut a thinline body. |

If it can be worked out logistically, I can offer some free laser engraving/cutting if it would serve the project, e.g. laser engraving a pattern/picture/artwork/inscription onto the body or headstock if it were shipped to me at the appropriate time, likely post sanding, pre finishing, or possibly post finishing for the headstock. I've done some engraving on headstocks, and lots on various woods, but would be hesitant to fire on a finished body.
If the parts are shipped to me, I'll cover the cost of shipping them to their next destination (stateside I assume). |

Body Blank -( guitarbuilder) Marty M. I'll donate a cut and routed, one piece pine body. It needs drilling, roundover or binding, and sanding. I'll ship it to whoever wants to do those things.

I will provide the neck blank either walnut or cherry. I can provide other wood parts and or services, but lets wait to see who all gets on board. Knowing the orginization this is going for, I hope we can build more than one.
