finished thinkness sanding birdseye maple for new builds. I want to know...
I just got my birdeye maple back from being planed and service sanded. I plan on doing one or two builds after Christmas. The rest of it i plan to sell after new years. I don't know much about the value of wood so my question is .. what is a fair price to ask for each?
thank you. |

sorry to say, but highly figured wood, unless wide enough to be used as a "one piece" or a two piece, book-matched, is not particularly desirable.

Didn't want to be cruel, but I wouldn't use any of those pieces on one of my guitars. Any reason why you didn't attempt to book-match them?

actually someone gave these to me all glued , they were about 1 inch think , i got them planed and sanded to 1/4 " thick. I think i will try 2 of them for a build to see what happens.
thanks for your input guys. Oh well... they didn't cost me anything. |

I would consider cutting them up matching the pieces better. I don't mind a 3 piece top if the wood is all consistant in grain/figure and pattern. Maybe even laminate a strip of walnut between the maple. Maple-thin walnut-Maple- thin walnut- Maple. That would make them look pretty cool. In fact, I wouldn't mind trying that if the price was real cheap.

The correct way to do that would have been to re-saw the 1" boards to make a bookmatch. Personally I'm not a huge fan of birdeye, but since you have nothing to lose why not go for it. There are two panels there that do look better than the others.
