Once again ............... there was only one Snakehead prototype. Only one built by Fender before the '90s. In the '90s, Fred Stuart took measurements from the original and built the first replica. Then the Custom Shop built 50 more. All without truss rods.

I'm noticing that the pic Jack posted of the old CS replica and Groovey's pic of the newer one have slightly different bottom radii and Groovey's has more of a "Tadeo taper" on the backside (a softer, smoother curve applied to the flared area).
Since mine was not to be a replica, I went with what I thought to be more pleasing to the eye; the tuners are moved a bit closer to the nut, and the more finished look of tuner bushings. By the way, this fat, fat (no trussrod) neck sounds amazing! I hope yours will too!

Joe,
I'm probably making it more complicated than it needs to be, so if you have these dimensions handy, that would be great: HS width at the base = ? HS width at the tip = ? HS length from nut to tip = ? That's probably all I really need for now. If I like the way my design works out, you may have another customer... |

![]() ![]() ![]() I have 3 standard snakehead necks on the bench right now...plus one that will be OVER THE TOP with inlays and such. I'll try to post them as I complete them. J |

I've tried to work the dimensions out, but I'm not 100% on them. If anyone wants to correct me on these, go ahead:
Width, top - 3.8cm Width, widest point (just before nut - 7cm Height, from top of headstock to nut - 14cm Length of the longest sides - 12cm Photo from my phone - the lines partway through with the dots are where I estimate the tuners will be: ![]() Uploaded with ImageShack.us |
