Neck pickup: which way round?
Greetings all!
I'm installing a set of Bill Lawrence's L-280 pickups in my Tele. There's no indication of which way round to install the neck pickup - which side faces the neck and which the bridge. Does it matter? I've also noticed that the polarity of the neck pickup is the opposite of the bridge pickup. Is this normal? (i.e. the top-side of the neck pup is "N" and the top-side of the bridge pup is "S".) Thanks!

it probably doesn't matter, but in a tele that's drilled neck pocket through neck p'up route to control route, the wires coming off the bottom would make for a tidy install.
the polarity - it would be normal for single coil magnets to be opposite and for their coils to be wound in opposite directions as it'd give you hum canceling in the middle switch position. For stacked coils, I guess it might have a similar advantage - the top coils wound in different directions... the bottom coils wound opposite of their tops and each other. |
