Time to put in the fret markers.

Now that the fretboard is radiused time to put the fretmarkers on.

So I marked the board to where the markers would go, taped it off mainly to be able to see the marks better.

Drilled the holes with a 1/4" forstner bit.

by the way anybody notice my "learning opportunity" yet, I didnt'.

mixed up some epoxy and glued in the MOP dots.

Then I drilled 1/16" holes along the edge for the side markers and glued in plastic rod with a little CA.

Trimmed them up with a razor blade and let it set before I sand it.

This is where I should have included the pic of everything all sanded but after I sanded is when I notice the mistake, I mean "learning opportunity".

Anybody pick up on it yet?

The more I look at it the more I think I want to go with a maple neck on this guy. It just doesn't have that same vintage vibe I want. My plans are to finish with the rosewood neck first and then build an all maple neck with the proper skunk stripe next to put on there and re-use the rosewood one on another build. Because just like Lays, you can't stop with just one.

I'll say this, my first neck build has offered up plenty of "Learning Opportunities". It has really been fun so far, not without its frustrations but fun.

Thanks for following along.
IMO that neck would look perfect on a double bound, candy apple red tele... just saying

BTW this build looks great

Whoa.... Harvy that is almost spooky. My thought was to save it for a double bound thinline with a red black burst, and a pair of P-90s. Hey, get out of my head.

Is your learning opportunity related to the double markers coming in at the 14th fret instead of the 12th? Seems like something I could see myself doing also....

Ding, ding, ding, ding.... Yeah, you spotted it. Too bad I didn't until too late. What's that old adage? Measure twice cut once.

Lesson learned, patience, don't rush, double and tripple check before drilling, cutting, or anything that is not reversible.

So look for my next chapter in this thread, how to fix it.

Although I kinda liked my friend at works suggestion, fix the side ones but leave the front alone and really mess with people when they watch you play.

"Hmm it sounds right but I usually play that at the 9th fret, this guy plays it at 7..."

I've got a Peavey Generation with no front markers, I never miss 'em as long as I've got the sides...

What side dot marker rod did you use? I can't find any that long... Help!

Also, did it really only take you 5 minute to radius 9.5"? It takes me about 1/2 hour to get one completely radiused by hand. Lots of wood to remove with 9.5" block.

Honestly I didn't clock it but it couldn't have been much more than 5 maybe ten minutes, my shoulder won't hold up much longer than that. I had some 150 grit 3M paper almost full length of the block and it cut real fast. When I get home I'll check what the exact paper is, it has a red backing and seems to cut real well and lasts long too.

Hey Joe, I checked that sandpaper. It is Norton 3x 150 grit. Picked it up at Home Depot in the contractor pack. Works great.
