dude, pretty cool!
by 'stamper' do you mean she stamped those patterns on with ink? or like, burnt them on or something?

That last photo shows a real nice glossy sheen, how did you acheive this?

It looks fantastic

Thanks for the positive comments Barkley. Yes, my wife stamped the images with ink on a rubber stamp. I am going to get a stamp made up for my headstock logo and use the same process.

I used a high gloss acid cat lacquer and wet sanded it to 2000 grit. Then I used Meguires swirl remover and a lambs wool buffing pad on my drill to polish it up. I am very happy with the results. I still need to refine my spraying and buffing technique. There are a couple of imperfections that are not in highly visible areas.

Awesome grain on the Tele. Both look great!

How easy is it to get Douglas Fir down there?

They both look fantastic Guityak.
Love the grain in the Sheoak - is it closely related to Silky oak?

Thanks jkingma. I appreciate that given how great your builds are.

Thanks, Mojotron. The Douglas fir is about 100 years old I got hold of a piece third hand after 40 years as rafters in a shed. Prior to that it was part of a woolshed down at the port. I wouldn't have a clue about getting hold of anymore, so therefore I assume it is not the easiest to get hold of. But then again I haven't asked. I know for a fact it is not something you see sitting around in lumber yards.

Thanks Nutty. No, the Sheoak is a West Australian Allocasuarina whereas the Silky Oak is Grevillea Robusta.

I agree it is pretty spectacular grain. That piece is not the best I have seen though.

I must confess the lining up of the grain was purely an accident. I didn't notice it until I cut it to shape. Thanks for the nice words.

Nice work on both - really great finish, too. Does that stuff spray on? And how do you like the tone of the Wilky pickups?

Douglas Fir/Oregon Pine grows like weeds around here, but most of it is real soft. It has been logged so heavily the last 100 years, it's tough to find any clear, even-grained planks. There's a wood salvage place here in my town that I keep meaning to check out - some old beams would be great for a build like yours.

Thanks for the comments. The oregon was given to me by a friend as an off cut from one of his very large boards. The pickups sound pretty good as far as I can tell at this stage. I really like the tone and I chose them because I wanted a strat sounding tele setup. I think I have achieved it. Yes the acid cat sprays on really well. In a large quantity it can last about 3 days after you mix it. Once you spray it it is ready for sanding in about 30min.

Thanks Kirfew. I am very impressed with the sound of the pine as a tone wood. This whole guitar seems to resonate with tone. A friend of mine suggested that old pine is a lot better tonally than new seasoned pine due to the resins in the timber crystallising over time. I can't test that theory out but it does seem to make sense.

G&L is where Leo went after he sold Fender pretty much. I prefer a fender tele because i dont like the look of the pickguard/pickups/bridge in the G&L Tele. But yeah after selling fender to CBS, Leo and a guy called george(i dont know anything about him) made G&L guitars.
