I thought it would since the truss rod adjust would be done at the nut. The micro tilt is like a built in adjustable shim, right? Will it work with regular neck screws if I don't go the micro tilt route?

yeah, i put the exact same (i think) neck plate on a random parts neck i got off ebay, it does work without the whole micro-tilt thing but i found the micro-tilt really handy so i went with it in the end.
