So... i was thinking, what's a really silly thing to do?
Hi all, i'm Ed. Long time reader, first time writer.
So i'm building a guitar... you may have already guessed it's going to be a telecaster. But if i wanted a tele I hear they started selling them in shops and stuff so that's hardly original enough for someone as wierd as myself with all this time on my hands. So, like the rest of you, I've decided to make one myself to give it that "personal" feel. To start with I'm gonna paint it my own way, right now i'm thinking this one's gonna look like this: ![]() i know, ooh la la, arty and everything. If I could post this as a sound clip I could even pronounce "mondrian" with a lovely fake french accent so you'd REALLY dislike me. (I rock at dinner parties tho) sorry... i got sidetracked there. Anyway, the point is i'm never satisfied with being only ambitious so I had a look round at some of the wackier works of guitar-art on this forum and I've had an idea... ...an in built tuner? like on a moderately/very expensive electro-acoustic? trouble is, I have an electronics GCSE and I never encountered this on the course lol, just wondering if anyone's even heard of this idea before, or even better, if anyone has any advice for me? (my mate already said "give up" so anything more constructive than that pls) ta very much in advance |

You know what they say, "Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder".
I'm not big on the color scheme, but that's just me, do whatever floats your boat. Now the built-in tuner on the other hand.... A few guys I know have a clamp on tuner that they put on the headstock during a gig, and just leave it there. Looks kinda goofy. A built in one that's permanently wired to the output jack and has a switch so you can turn it on at will, with a display where the player can see it, now that's cool. hmm you got me thinkin' on that one... Chris

ta for the input, i like the colours less and less every time i look at them lol, that's why i did them first so that by the time i have to paint it i'll be sure i like it. I also thought of plastering newspapers over the wood like paper mache and then lacquer over the top? Dunno if that would work on wood tho, just a thought. I also wondered (as i wrote that last sentence) about the wierd little mousepad doo-hickey matt bellamy (of muse) has at the bottom of his guitar under the bridge... that's pretty nifty, anyone made one of those b4? |

that's a nifty little bit of equipment, little bit expensive tho, see i was hoping to cannibalise a bog standard LED tuner and route a little hole for it in the side of the guitar like electro acoustics have them

you're not a franz fan as well by any chance, are you? and the thing he has is a korg kaoss pad (like so..) ![]() it'd be quite possible to b**tardize one into a standard guitar although not entirely useful if you ask me.. just annoying noise

i'm also considering (after a bit of playing and a very unique situation presenting itself) replacing the tail strap button with a bottle opener. am i a moron? am i a genius? am i just really bored after an appendectomy and i'm left to create stupid things to put on my guitars? who can say for sure. |

Bottle openers have been done, but if you're going to go for a bottle opener I would definetly reccomend a bottle top catcher on the amp. This HAS to be as classy as possible. :)
