Where do I get '50's era control switches???

Hi all. I'm desperately trying to find a source for the hard-to-find 50's control switch. Used to be supplied by a company named Centralab. These switches are specific in that the switch boad was made from brown phenolic resin. I only saw one on ebay and it was for $325!! No way am I that stupid, but I really really need 3 or more of them. Willing to pay $***.** range but prefer not to. Another possibility is whether any of you elctronic gurus might be able to retrofit a similar material to a current CRL switch. I'm very serious about this... any help would be greatly appreciated~!
Thanks

Smokestack

Not to be curt, but if you're not willing to pay, then you probably won't find any unless you find a hidden stash at some small Mom and Pop electronic repairs stores.

They are rare and every single tele player is looking for them too.

Good Luck

Oh, no offense taked at all. :) That's what I thought. I'm more than willing to pay that much if that is what they're going for. I really don't know, which is why I asked. Considering that you must know about this in detail, then I will consider your reply as an experienced one. Thank You

Possibility 1: he's looking to put them in 3 new Squier CVs where your comment would make sense.

Possibility 2: he's looking to put them in 3 $50,000+ blackguards where $250 would be pretty fair for a vintage correct part... And a oak grigsby would basically show he's clueless about vintage guitars while devaluing them FAR more than the $245 he saved.

Which do you think is more likely?

Neither, but i could'nt care less....

How likely do you think is the possibility he's got three originals with wack switches?

well?

And can you even fathom what it would do to the value of those things (if this crazy fantasy would be true) if only the solder joints were broken?

But i just say that because of the colour (or lack thereoff) off your post...

I was merely trying to find out why he wanted the original switch.

It could be a very vintage correct project as well...

There is people who care about vintage correctness you know!

----------------------------------------------

Gil, i forgot to ask the first time around when you showed these, are they the very early ones with two pat. numbers stamped in or the somewhat later ones with the three patents stamped in ?

cheers

I managed to get a 1452 CRL switch ages ago for $70, but with today's prices, for my next "replica", modern electrics will do!

I'm also a geek and care about the stuff "under the hood" that you cannot see, hence I have purchased a whole bunch of old CRL switches. I never spend much money on guitar stuff since my gal wanted a house and so I did hunt around all over the web, bought what I could afford and never paid more than US $ 40 for one (sometimes even as little as $15).
Right now I have 9 of them and no...I won't part with them. They are tucked away save and sound waiting to go into various projects.

One of the last batch I bought arrived broken (someone must have stepped on the padded envelop) but the switch was fixable and works like a charm again.

I've also purchased a couple of the later model CRL's that went into my last guitar...a mid 60's inspired repro:

I also made a repro of an old switch from a current issue CRL:

Much cheaper than buying an original one today on the 'bay but also much more work...

Cheers,

Sascha

Sascha

Talk us through the process of creating a repro. Very interesting.

Good work my friend.

Why would anyone ever spend $300 on a switch for a partscaster? It might be "vintage correct" but it'll never be the real thing. Very nice work Sasha, looks like you put alot of effort into it. These look good for only $40.

Ah the speculation :) Sorry I never got back to this thread....I'm a perfectionist, and am in the middle of reproducing tele #2650 - right down to the exact-spec Seymour Duncan pups being made for me, laquer/wind/laquer/plate/$$$ etc. Yeah, this stuff is very expensive. I HAVE TO DO IT NOW.... I HAVE BECOME OBSSESSED with this project. I imagine there are more than a few here like me.... God save you all! lol

Found great repros for $50... close enough to fool me. Also have old bakelite to make into switches now. Lots of it, as I will really screw up MANY, but what a fun challenge. :)
