I'm using a Squire Classic Vibe Tele neck for this. Other parts not in the picture: fender control plate, 250k CTS pots, .05uf polystyrene capacitor, .001uf, .002uf, .005uf cap and acrylic pick guard material with 1.5mm thickness=)

*wants hard!*

I'm curious about the neck pup rout - is there a P90 or something hiding under the 'guard?

Thanks so much for the positive comments guys! =) It means a lot to me especially since this forum has always been my inspiration when it comes to my teles and especially with this build. I've been amazed with the creations of others here and I actually even showed Max some of the photos from this site. He was overwhelmed and inspired with you guys as well.

@ ratter: I actually haven't weighed it since I don't have access to a weighing scale, but it does carry a bit of more weight compared to my Highway One and 52 Hot Rod. Definitely not heavier than a les paul but more than a normal tele. And with the weight of the wood, the sustain and resonance is just lovely to my ears. My 62ri (alder) was my heaviest tele but this one beats it by a pinch. So along with the neck cavity, we further added a cavity in the middle and around the sides as well with a "honey comb" cavity pattern to take off some weight on it and now it weighs comfortably =)

@ Cap'n Kier: The plan for this guitar was just to have one pickup since I've always wanted to have a esquire. It's wired with a 5-way superswitch which has the settings of volume control only, volume & tone control, volume with .001uf, then .002uf and .005uf for the cocked wah tone. We decided to route a "universal" neck pickup cavity which is ready to take all kinds of neck pickups including P90's just in case the esquire setting doesn't work for me. I would either have a "stealth" pickup underneath or route the pickguard to accommodate the added neck pickup if ever.. But ever since I got it I'm really stoked and loving the tones outta this guitar, so I'm keeping it as is.

@Buckocaster51: Thanks sir! I've always been a fan of your thread regarding your sparkle tele builds and it's an honor of you dropping by. Max will be really pleased to know about the good comments from fellow luthiers/guitar builders across the other side of the planet =)

Hi,
very nice!
Side question - what size is the 'universal' pickup route? I was thinking of doing something similar
Is it made for p90 and will fit anything smaller? Thing is, I want it to be able to take a jazzmaster pickup so not sure if your size fits that.

Also, does anyone have experience with wiring in a normal single tele pickup into such a large slot - is this an issue? Any tips/tricks? Thx!

I reckon it would be nice left without finishing! Superb.

Needs that neck HB though...

Hi, thanks for your positive comment.

Not sure about the routing size. Max said it could accommodate P90 and anything smaller. The routing was made just in case the esquire set-up turns out to be not my cup of tea, but so far I like it a lot! So I'm keeping it as a esquire.

If I'm not mistaken the Squire Classic Vibe Tele has a stock routing made to fit even humbuckers, yet they come with single coil neck pickups installed so I don't think it's a problem.

Hope this helps. =)

Still undecided if I should leave it as is and just add clear coat, or have it painted with a translucent vintage white/blonde..

What do you guys think?

Other suggestions are welcome too=)

Thanks!

damn that's hot! very nice grains!

if you were to paint it, make sure it's done very sparingly.. just a thin layer of paint so the grains can still shine thru. but it's your call really.

congratulations to you and max on a job well done on a beautiful guitar!

cheers!

Great looking guitar, I would leave it as it is, or would go with a tobacco burst.

Thanks! I'm really loving the grains too, but I'm still 50/50 on painting it trans vintage blonde or just leave it natural finish and clear coat it..

Yup, if I do paint this.. I really want it really really done thinly even less than the normal "thin skin" finish. I definitely want the grains to be visible=)

Still undecided though..
