oh no. i think ive been bit by the build bug!

so, yesterday i felt an unexplainable urge to go down to the basement and sort through my parts drawer, and this morning i somehow ended up on the reranch website looking at colors. just when i thought i was content with what i had-BAM! oh dear...i think i might need to take a break from this forum before it gets me in real trouble!

Lol! I'm currently on my 8th build this year, and I love 'em all. I've developed this terrible pattern that if I have a spare pup or two, they require a guitar be built for them, and I'm always either buying pups off the classifieds here, or replacing the stockers in some of my brand name guitars. It doesn't help that Rondo and GFS are in neighboring states, so that if I buy something, it's usually here tomorrow or the next day. Talk about instant gratification!

My first (and, currently, only) build began as a way to put an extra set of tuners to good use. Now that I replaced the string ferrules with a ferrule block on this guitar (to cover up a bad string-through drilling experience), I have this extra set of string ferrules... just laying around....

Anyway.... good luck trying to quell the urge.

im glad that im not the only one that has to live with this affliction. lol. ive got two finished bodies, two finished necks, four more unfinished bodies and three blanks waiting to be cut. all are one piece bodies and body blanks. id been planning on selling them...perhaps i wont.

Look on the bright side, you can make guitars that are unique, express who you are and give a degree of satiafaction buying a new cookie cutter job of the rack can't come close to. I've only bought one new guitar since I started making them 30 years ago and don't miss them. Just give in to the urge it won't go away so why fight it?

I told my wife that I wouldn't spend anymore money on parts for builds until we got some things paid off, so to keep myself from going into withdrawl I've been tearing down my guitars and swapping and adding parts that I already have.

alright, i decided to just quell my urge to construct a new guitar by putting together a spare partscaster. lol. this is the first body i ever cut and finished myself. notice the thick spray on the sides, an effort to cover up some mistakes made when a certain someone went a little nuts with a drum sander. oh well, live and learn. it actually gives the guitar an unique look. like some kind of weird binding or something. the top and back were finished with reranch blonde on a northern ash one piece body. i didnt bother doing any grain filler or sanding/sealer. i just sprayed the blonde directly onto the body and then sanded it down. i then added a few coats of deft. the color scheme isnt totally original as i thought it was. a friend of mine has a gretsch in "jaguar tan" that is similar. i have a couple compensated fender 3 barrel bridges lying around, but i thought id try a rusted out make-unknown 6 saddle for a change. the bridge pickup is a sd five-two, and the neck pickup is some kind of sd also. not sure, ive had it forever. the control assembly is 60s fender style, but with a flipped plate. the neck has a 9.5 radius with a slim profile. this is one heavy beast at 9lbs! im anxious to get it wired and setup. should be a lot of fun.
