VooDooCaster or TeleVeester Build?

Alright I'm just making up names as I go along here but VooDooCaster has a certain ring to it.

I love teles, always have. I own a Tele Thinline copy and boy does it wail. I could mod it and customise it but whats the point, it'll always be a chinese guitar.

I'm in a band, I play lead guitar, nothing fancy just minor/major pentatonic with a little Dorian thrown in every now and again.

I want a guitar that's different so I looked at Minariks. Nice sure but to LPish. I used to play a Strat (early 90s MIM)and still do (Jim Deacon copy) but I just don't see eye to eye with them on an everyday basis. I've owned lots of guitars, Gibson SG, Epi Les Paul, Epi Dot, Ibanez, BC Rich, Tanglewood.

I liked the SG, didn't like the sound I got even though I worship AC/DC. Loved the lightness.

So I'm going for the near impossible here I think.

I love the way my tele copy feels, I love the neck shape, I love the lightness of Vs and SGs and I love the creamy tone from a Les Paul.

All these guitars have different character sure but I can't help thinking a V body with some beefy humbuckers and a tele neck would sound and look sweet. On the other hand I like the idea of just a plain old tele, ash and maple, hot single coils and nothing else.

I can only afford 1 guitar build. This is to be my main guitar. I won't start purchasing parts for a couple of weeks as I'd like to run it all by you guys first but body/neck blanks are fairly cheap, even the african/brazilian mahogany ones.

I'd like to build the body myself from a blank but the neck I think is too adventurous so I'd go for something ready made. If I'm going gibson body style then I want a set neck, tele obviously I'll go bolt on. If I go full tele it'll be Ash body and the whitest maple neck I can find. If I go V style it'll be african/brazilian mahogany, maple neck, rosewood board.

Pick ups I'm unsure off. I play clean alot and when I play dirty I play fairly dirty (Think Slash/Joe Bonamassa). I need to have good ryhthm and lead sounds. I favour the bridge pick up as neck pups always sound muddy to me. I don't much like Duncans/Gibsons/Fender stock so something different would be nice. I could probably stretch to a set of Fralin P-90s, I like the combo of meat and clean but I'm open to other suggestions.

Harware I think will be Fender branded stuff just for the name really and a good set of locking tuners.

Finish is to be natural, just a little seal on the wood ala Lennon/Harrisons Casinos.

Oh electronics would be bought in kit form but the ones I'm looking at have CTS pots and orange drops.

Thoughts appreciated.

do the V with the tele neck, but get more creative than 2 buckers. tele bridge on a V? heck yes. I have always dreamt of a TeleV. Do a P-90 bridge and humbucker neck! mmm I can hear the gnarliness now.

hi,
i've been making voodoocaster headstock decals on my computer for a few years now.
you probably have a "brush script" font in you word program, but there are lots of other cool fonts as well. the brush script works really well if you want a fairly authentic looking Fender logo. i use a larger font for the F in fender and V in voodoocaster. sometimes they read F*#king voodoocaster, for fun.
you can order waterslide decal or clear peel and stick to print on. once you have them in place, a few light coats of lacquer and the look GREAT!
good luck,
mj
