2 1/4 neck pocket?

Hello, new here... I checked first few pages, but didn't find any info on this.
I am building my first Tele, and the body I want to use has a 2 1/4 pocket, can I use the 2 3/16 Mighty Mite neck? What recommendations do you have? I apologize if this has been covered, if so point me in the right direction. Thanks! Many of you have beautiful guitars, hope to show you mine when I have it completed!

You could use it. Youl have to shim the neck pocket though.

I'd be interested to hear these good ideas. I have a mid seventies Tele Deluxe with an oversized neck pocket.

I think I will glue 2 pieces of 1/32 (1 to the top, 1 to the bottom side) wood, equal size to the pocket, then hopefully have a good fit.

When I was a kid (oh, you know back in the Jurassic) my Dad used to to get palstic cylinders with Edgewood Veneer coiled up in it. That stuff would be excellent as a shim stock, and it was real wood veneer bands, 1" wide x 1/32"+/- thick. He used to get birch and walnut and make checkerboards on plywood.

They usually sell this stuff at home centers. i have seen it at mine. this would be excellent for shims.

I would wait until you have all the parts assembled and then string the guitar. Once it's strung, you can nudge the neck around the pocket to the best possible place for string alignment and then make the shims to fit the remaining gaps. They probably will not be the same size.

If you want the ultimate, snug, well aligned neck pocket, this is a method you might seriously consider.

I agree that the threaded inserts for neck attachments are a fine choice for overall strength and stability, and probably tone transference. I have designed a lot of machinery and store fixtures where the use of threaded inserts was the only way to ensure repeatable fastening with proper locations. Just look at the Knock-Down Quick Assemble furniture rom any big box store; they all use inserts (mainly because they use particle board with vinyl coating). But they work well.
