Pulled the trigger on a Pine Body

Well, I just pulled the trigger on a Pine Body. I do not have too much build experience. I am hoping with the help of you kind folks I will be able to build a really nice natural finish Blackguard Pinecaster. Here is a pic of the Body. It is a raw body completely unfinished. I know i will have to sand and finish. Once I get it I am sure I will have tons of questions. I also need a neck yet and hope not to sink too much money into it LOL.

Nice looking body. I'm sure you'll do fine building it up.

I like Warmoth, Allparts, and USACG necks.

You won't be sorry. I used mine for the first time last weekend and it has a unique tone that is heavenly.

Whatever you do, don't skimp on the neck, bridge plate, saddles, and pickups. They are the heart and soul of a great sounding Tele.

Here's mine with vintage amber stain, TruOil on the pine body and nitro on the neck...

I really like the look and grain of Pine!

Not to threadjack, but what are Pine's tonal qualities compared to the "Big 3" Alder/Ash/Mahogany?

Hard to describe, only a fool would try, so here goes-

Pine is light in weight. It seems to have a very airy-acoustic sound. Mine sounds good unplugged.
The tone seems vibrant and very focused at the same time. I know airy and focused don't seem to mix, but that's how it sounds to me.

The reason I said not to skimp on certain things is because of my experience with this one. It has Glendale plate and saddles with Keystones.
I don't know how much of the great sound is because of this combo (lots I imagine) or the pine, but all together it works great. I have Arlo to thank.

I would say pine is fairly close to alder with less highs, and a little more acoustic sounding. Every pine body I have played sounded amazing unplugged. But really, if someone didn't tell you it was pine, you couldn't say Ash, Alder, Mohoghany or Pine.

Guess where one set is going to end up.

That is the mistake that many people building a partscaster make... they are thinking all the cheapest parts will somehow make a great guitar...

I used a Guitarmill 2 piece pine body, Allparts TMO-fat neck, Nocasters and a Callaham vintage T hardware set. This is my favorite guitar...

I think another mistake people makes is buying all boutique parts or expensive parts and think that is going to automatically make great guitar.

I agree though, A good neck, good pickups, and good bridge will take you far in the guitar building business.

But the sum of the parts does not always equal the finished product. There is some skill involved.
