Khan's Esquire Build

Hey Guys,

I just accumulated most of my parts and will hopefully be putting this thing together soon. Still gotta order my Duncan BG1400!

The parts just arrived today and the finishing/aging job from Mark Jenny is top-notch! She's an aged seafoam with top binding. The neck is a super huge baseball bat profile with vintage frets & radius.

I'm going to be doing a 4-way Esquire selector with a couple different cap values for the cocked wah sounds as well as using the tone knob as a push/pull to split the coils of the BG1400.

Part of me is really wanting to go to the Indy Road Rockets hot rod show this weekend and get her pinstriped, but I can't decide. Here are some pics...

Cheers,

KHAN.

that's me! After stealing the Genesis device from Kirk, I decided to put my efforts into assembling guitars. Much less confrontational.

Love it!!! (not hard since it was my idea in the first place).
Have a topbound Esquier build going myself you know...
awesome colour that body of yours.
Mine is a kit (altough hardware is discarded) with RW neck, but i'm most def. leaning towards a ballbat maple neck after seeing yours...

Keep us informed, good luck with the build/assembly

cheers,Olaf

Thanks guys. The idea was inspired by liking the limited run of top-bound Esquire's from the Fender Custom Shop last year, but not liking the thin neck and the super fat price tag. I did some surfing on this forum and saw that it was feasible and much cheaper to build/assemble exactly what I wanted (specs, color, etc.).

I ordered the Duncan BG1400 and it will be wound for me in the next couple weeks. Can't wait to get that installed! I also have to do some work on filing & fitting the nut. I've got all the hardware ready to go and need to solder up my pots, switch, & jack as well. I can do all that while waiting for the pickup to arrive.

Here's the wiring schematic I plan to use...I think I'll do it "reverse" with the selector at the rear and the vol & tone up front...

Well, I guess this is perhaps one of the most anti-climactic build/assembly threads on the forum. The guitar is done, plays great, sounds great, & looks great.

Thank you, my friend! I'm really loving it. I have to admit, when I decided to do the 4-way selector and use different value caps for the "cocked wah" sounds, I thought it would be a novelty. I was wrong- these wah sounds are very useful and really open up a different dimension to playing. I'm really glad I did this wiring over the traditional.

Did you already receive the BG-1400 or did you just stick in a placeholder pickup? Working on an Esquire myself and I'd like to hear what you think of it.

Beautiful guitar, and I like your wiring schematic.
Is the body new and the neck reliced? or is that actually an older neck?

The pickup in the Esquire is a Duncan Alnico II tele bridge. It's just there so I can play it until the BG arrives. The BG1400 will take about 3-4 weeks to get here. It's being wound right now. I'm really looking forward to it- MJ wound my Antiquity pickups for my Les Paul, so I know she'll do an awesome job on my BG1400. I'll post a review and probably make some Youtube clips as well.

The guitar, neck, and parts are all aged and purchased from MJT custom finishes. Mark Jenny does an incredible job. You can't really see it from the pics, but the body has real heavy checking all over.
