Great job....looks fantastic.
Where did you buy the old growth wood and how much
price difference compared to "regular" wood?

Really like your template, did you make it yourself or did you buy it?

Sorry for all the questions....

Hi Ed,

I wanted to ask you...
What's the best way to transfer my templates to steel?
Should I make dxf's and have it cut by CNC?
Is there another option?

Thanks,
Gil

Thank you. It's not my design and not my process. It's Leo's. I try to stick with the original old methods as much as possible.

Thanks. The finished product... well... I usually wait about 2 months after spraying nitro lacquer before I even touch the guitar, so it's going to take a while. I'll post the finishing and pickup build soon though.

Sorry for all the questions....
It's getting harder and harder to get nice woods. I buy wood all the time (for years) from any reliable old growth source. Swamp Ash, Alder, Maple and Brazilian Rosewood. I'm willing to pay a lot for the right quality wood up to 150$ a blank and 120$ for dark straight grain Brazilian RW. Most mills don't advertise the source (old growth or not) so you'll have to inquire and demand that info before paying. About 95% of the wood out there is NOT old growth!
And it's getting worse each year... too sad... I only use old growth wood + I let it sit for about a year before using it on a guitar.

Regarding the templates... I don't trust ANY source other than the real instruments. I make my own templates from original vintage examples.

You nailed it with those two issues... the woods and templates... that's 90% of the result.
