My first build... share your thoughts!
Hi,
My first build will contain the following specs: - swamp ash body in Cherry Sunburst - all maple neck, V shape - black (maybe white) pickguard - Fender Nocaster pickups Maybe this sounds pretty standard, but since I didn't found a suitable production Tele, I choose to build one myself. My name's Emiel and I am from the Netherlands. I have been reading and searching a lot about assembling a Telecaster. I found a lot of useful information on this forum. So I thought why not taking part! I already have a nice (finished) neck. It's from Allparts and I just ordered a Mighty Mite body and the hardware. I'll buy the pickups soon as well. Here's a pic of the exact body: ![]() I will have to drill the holes in the neck to attach it on the body. Also I need to drill holes for the tuners, pickguard and the bridge. A friend of mine has the right tools to drill these. Any idea's, tips? I'll try to keep this topic updated with pictures and the lot. Thanks, Emiel |

TDPRI'er Ron Kirn's website has a tutorial documenting a Strat build, but don't worry, most of the information and tips will also be applicable to your Tele....
Also, visit TDPRI'er Rob DiStefano's website: www.frettech.com click on "info" and scroll down a ways...there you'll find information on attaching your neck and how to setup etc.... Click on the "Telecaster Resources" link at or near the top of every TDPRI page, you'll find plenty of info there too..... the www.projectguitar.com website should prove helpful to you as well.... hope it helps ! |

Hey Emiel,
Welcome on board. I have to agree, this guitar building is very catchy, I'm planning my second and I'm not finished my first yet too. In the spring I'm getting a new shed for all my guitar building tools. Sounds like your projects going to be a cool piece of kit by the time it's done, look forward to seeing it. I distribute bicycles from your country by the way. Hope your guitar is as nicely built as their bikes. Tot Ziens Kenny |

From my experience...you want to know that bridge choice, and placement, the neck length, and the neck pocket rout will give you a 25.5" scale length.
Just learning about these things myself. |

Welcome, Emiel!
I like that body. A careful look shows it is 3 pieces, but a quick glance says "One piecer!" and that is a great attribute in a burst body. Enjoy that build! |

Hi mate! It's a quite interesting project!
Beside everything that have been said, the only thing I could tell you is that ordering from mighty mite is a bit random from my only experience. Last summer I bought a neck, everything was fine but the fretboard dots were off center. From distance you won't notice it, but it's bugging me. Just remember that you get what you pay for. I paid about 100$ so I got a 100$ neck. Next time I will go for USACG I guess. Jim |

You're totally right. I bought the body basically because I couldn't find a Warmoth or Allparts which I liked so I went with this one instead. If the assembling goes well and I really like the guitar, I might look for another, more high quality body, eventually. But I haven't start building the Tele with the intention that it might become my main guitar, it will never take the place of my Les Paul. I will use the Tele just occasionally when I need a 'thinner' or 'treblier' sound :). My Les Paul is also a Cherry Sunburst. I removed the pickguard though. Maybe I should put a cream (or white) pickguard on the Tele???

Hi,
A small update from my place. According to USPS.com, both the hardware and the body have arrived in the Netherlands. I think I will be assembling the body and neck at the end of the coming week. The pickups will be ordered today so I will have the whole bunch then. Will keep you informed. |

Hi Emiel,
That's one nice body you got. The cherry burst is very nice. I got a Sienna burst one and I like the white pickguard on that one (check my photo's). If you are looking for parts in the Netherlands check Vox Humana (in Vlaardingen). They are not cheap, but they do have a lot of stuff in stock. Good luck and keep us informed. Patrick |

The teles I got at the moment are Fender USA teles. Both are from the same era 1983-1984. The sienna burst one is 100% original; the blonde one has been modified with a chrome pickguard and a Seymour Duncan STK-2B bridge pickup.
I am currently trying to build a thinline tele. Been at it some time and I can almost start painting it. Good luck with your build. Patrick |

The hardware arrived today. Here are some pics together with the neck.
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() All seems to be great quality! Allparts neck, Fender bridge, CTS pots, Kluson tuners... all made in USA. Found out the string ferulles are missing so I quickly ordered them, together with a white pickguard. I'm still not sure what would look best on that body... This weekend I'm going to finish the neck by adding the nut, tuners and string tree. The nut is a bit too wide and thick so I will give it a go with some sandpaper. The holes for the tuners are also a bit too small for the tuner bushings... once again I'll use a piece of sandpaper to widen them up a bit. |
