OK
I have enough clear on it but......
I have 2 small issues

I sealed these knots with CA glue before I started clearing but they did not level out too well.
One part of me says leave them,it's build out of a barn. The other part says,You can't leave it like that
What you guys think
I can drop fill them again and see if I can get them to level and then put on more topcoat??????
Opinions

Here is one with the flash

Other than that it looks great

I've seen somebody, Norm Abram maybe, use black-tinted epoxy type stuff to fill holes in the middle of knots.

A mixture of dark wood and CA would probably work as well. Do you have a piece of ebony laying around?

That project is looking good.

I'm taking it you are liking the finish you are using, eh?

Marty, what is the brand of this water based lacquer? It looks like it would be worth trying. Is it a tougher finish (i.e. less subject to chipping) than nitro or acrylic lacquers?

Marty,

You sir, are a good man - what a wonderful tribute, beautifully done. Life is indeed a journey rather than a destination - and your journey is truly First Class.

Goodonya! Thank you for sharing.

Good luck with fill. It's a knot though. They can be like sponges sometimes.

How are you lighting your shop? Your photos skills are improving too.

Because they're in the knots, I'd leave them. If they were in the wood they would look out of place - but in the knots (and because it was a barn) I reckon they actually shouldn't be filled. Character is the sum total of the object's nonstructural faults.

I actually drop filled them last night, sanded them at 5am before I went to work and drop filled again.I just sanded them again and they are pretty much level now. There is a couple little ones on the back I am going to leave for character
I just figured being kind of a presentation piece the front better look good.OK,back to work

That is beautiful. I wish the barns in the UK were made out of such gorgeous timber - round here they tend to be corrugated steel and brick. Not much tone out of those puppies.

Lovely story, lovely guitar and very inspriational. Even a 1000+miles away. Keep those pics coming!

Dear Marty,

You are making some serious memories here. Your gift is truly inspired and inspirational. It is a genuine act of love for the recipiant, for the craft and art of guitar making, and for the music that it wil bring into the hearts of many people, both those here today and some yet to be born.

Just one suggestion, you might request of the family that this instrument is to be played, not hung up over the mantle, and it should be passed down to one who will play it. I know that is their business, but you might add another decal that says, "This instrument was made to be played!"

God bless you, and the music makers in your community, as their example led you to this great act of creation.

Bruce

Since it is a nice sunny day here and they have been few and far between lately,I decided to give the girl some sun.The knots are pretty much level now.On just has a tiny dimple that I am sure will level out with the final coats.

Wow, indeed one of the nicest and coolest builds/things I've seen on a guitar forum, so far. You're an ace guitar builder, to say the least. Fender CS would be envious if they saw your work.

So, that's how you can make a 3-tone SB, I have always wondered about that, and all 3T SB are different, it's almost hard to find 2 that are exactly alike.

Hmm, since I can't really find the 3-tone SB telecaster in Ash, maybe I could repaint an Ash 2T SB into one.

Sorry, they're all on film and my neg scanner isn't up and running. Heck, I'm not even sure it will work with Win XP. I may have to resurrect a Win 98 machine to use it.

Wow, that is 9 different kinds of beautiful, I dunno how you guys crank them out so fast.

There's an old red barn across the street from me the we love. I dream about using some of the old weathered red boards as a cap on a tele. The really cool thing is the Big Dipper sits right above it at night, I thought maybe I could knock in some brass nails in the shape of the dipper, now all I need is some talent ;)

this is my favorite build ever detailed here at the TDPRI, not just because the guitar is so purty, but also why it's being built

What color pickguard are you gonna put on it?

Well I better get my butt in gear on this thing
From the poll results,it looks as the tort guard is going to be the one.It was what I had originally had in mind anyway. Thanks for all that posted their opinion

OK,onward we go
The body should be ready to buff out tomorrow so today we will fit as much as I can.I am going to start with the neck
First thing is the tuners.Vintage would probably go with the style better, but I though I had a set here but I can't find them so.....
I have a set of Gotoh Schaller style here I will use.Got them in and lined up,well, kinda
I'm not sure if all Mighty Mite necks are like this or just the two I have. They are both the same.

You can see that the B&G tuner holes are a little off.

Lined them up as best I could and drilled them

Got the screws in,and knocked out that plastic nut.
I slid in a tusq nut so I can get everything lined up

Everything seems to fit.Even the pickguard lines up pretty good.

Hmmm, sorry for the crappy pics, not sure what happened there
