WARNING-Build like you have never seen before-May be offensive to some

Well, today I was kind of in no mans land. All my builds are drying or waiting for parts etc.
No wood to start anything new,or is there!!!
I still have a couple pieces of that old fir from the Fircaster projects
TO bad it is to thin to do anything with.I would need a cap at least 1/2 thick
Well with the wonderful aroma of lacquer fogging my judgment,I went to work
Well this is the result of a few hours work

Looks good from the back, nail hole and all

And now for the OSBCaster

It probably would have looked better with a lighter wood for the back but I used what I had.It actually looks pretty cool with all the different types of wood in different directions
Maybe it's still the lacquer talking

I really like that particle board cap. It's so random and confusing. It reminds me of...of...of...oh yeah...my short term memory!

I t'ink it kool----neoprimitivo 'n utilitarianistical. To my eye, it needs a trans (or tinted trans) finish for the top, something goldytangerinish over an amberwash over a blackwash, with a clear topcoat to enhance dimensional potential (give the individual crossed ply frags more "pop"), then go nuts w/ the p'ups---p'raps an Electroflux for the bridge and CC or P-90 @ the neck w/ either no guard or a dark tortie guard.

Reminds me of the stories of those classical guitar luthiers who put a nice soundboard on paper mache body.
I bet if you put some good pickups in it, it will still sound sweet.
If that happens, its the ultimate argument ender for 1 piece body vs 2, vs 3 :)

I'd love to hear what it sounds like! I think with a glossy clear coat, it will look rad.

Remember now, only a few thin coats of nitro lacquer, you wouldn't want to kill the tone with a thick poly finish, right?

It needs a brand! like the G on the gretsches... except a brand from a local ranch.. that would be sweet!

and then really thick Poly... I'd buy it.

Marty, you never cease to amaze me. You have a level of creativity that is far beyond the reach of a lot of folks I know who are very creative. I can't wait to hear this. Amber clear, for sure. Maybe a reverse headstock neck, to keep with the non traditionalist approach.......
Boy, you are something else. Great job!

kinda reminds me of the ibanez guitars that were sold a few years ago that came from the factory with duct tape finish, but at least its a tele style body. i kinda dig it too, would make for a good beater gig guitar that you can toss around and not be too concerned about.

You not kidding
As for the black line,it is 0.060x0.25 binding turned on edge.I cut it down with the bandsaw so it is easier to bend on the tight turns. Then I use my home made widowmaker slot cutter on the drillpress

It's just a washer that I cut teeth into with a dremel and then give it just enough set to cut the correct width of channel. You have to be careful not to go too deep or the nut kinda roughs up the body

The bridge issue is no problem with longer screws. So what if they run thru the back ..... Grind 'em off with a dremel and fill and finish. Maybe even let 'em show, it already has the stunning character of the nail(which I like, BTW).

You could use metal inserts and machine screws, like the neck kits. I bet this is gonna work. I'd further bet: grain filling is gonna be the hardest part. This is already too much fun.
Thanx for this, Marty. I needed a good diversion. There are too many folks in another person's head, at my house, today.
