Not a very good picture. This thing is actually starting to get smooth

This is getting to look like a big piece of toast.

How about the pickguard that looks like peanut butter?

So what you guys think.Should I go for the smooth as glass top or leave a few divots in it?

This is he most interesting build I've EVER seen!!
I'm glued to this thread at this point!
How cool would it be for Home Depot to get some pics and do a commercial saying"you can build it,we can help, wer'e Home Depot."!!!!!!

Well ladies and gentleman
You are not going to believe this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You see that pic in the last thread

Well, after I took that pic,I was going to do what I have done the last week
Take my random orbital with a 320 grit pad, give it a nice quick pass to help level it out one last time.
I had a 150 grit pad on the sander so I pulled it off, grabbed a 320,put it on the sander and set it down not really paying attention where I set it.I come into the house to help with dinner etc.
WELL when I went back out, about an hour ago, guess what
I had set the sander on the guitar before I come in
No big deal right,well not
This thing has a mind of it's own.It had done this to me before.I always unplug it every night because of this.
Here was my sander, running all by itself, wedged up against the wall and the edge of the bench, sanding away on top of the guitar
Thank god it must not have been running long and this water base stuff is pretty hard. However it did manage to sand it's way through the topcoat and the burnt burst in one spot.
I should be upset but to tell you the truth,it's so damn funny I can't get mad.If it would have wrecked it I might be but it's nothing that is not fixable.
Needless to say,I put the 150 grit back on and finished the job it started by itself. It's smooth now

Well I got out the torch and did the burst thing again
Here we go again

Hey,did I unplug it !!!!!

Tried something
maybe I need to step away from the dye shelf

What ya think, should I carry on with it or go back to the way it was
There is a coat of clear under everything.Would be easy to start again

Maybe a black tinted outer ring now to help out the burnt????
Come on guys
Suggestions

I like the black outer ring idea..it will give it definition
and a black p/g guard would compliment it even further

I want me one of them ROBOT sanders! With that, a robot vacuum, and robot lawnmower, I'd have 'er made.

Me thinks you need a new sander, or power company, if it's that unpredictable.

Burst,

I think you'd be hiding a lot of pretty end grain, well on the non OSB layer anyway. But heh, it's your gig. ;)

Kinda glad that sander decided to turn itself on. This new burst looks great! I think it would look good with a smooth glossy clearcoat myself. Good work.

The 'burst is PERFECT on that! Being in the construction trades, I'd love to have a shot at it if you decide to sell. Just needs one of these for a strap!

Yeah, that's the ticket; excellent look! Marty, that thing's really shaping up. You going to use Tony's idea for a strap? It'd look pretty cool, IMO.

I like it now even better. Now it is still a novelty item, but also has the appearance of a serious player's guitar!

You guys think the burst looks ok?
Does it need more amber in the middle and a darker, wider transition to the black?
Just can't leave this thing alone

I would keep the burst to a minimum so that the differences between front and back grain can be seen as much as possible. It's kind of like jekyll and hyde. Scary front and normal back.

I'm wondering if the guys at Fender see this, how long before they come out with a Georgia-Pacific Autograph model?

The burst looks really good. Maybe a skosh more dark in the transition.

I noticed last night I am going to have to touch up the black on the back. After it dried, there are a couple spots that are pretty thin.

Marty, it's outstanding. We as a group from TDPRI should all, separately, contact some of the appropriate guitar mags and get them to feature it. Then follow up with the OSB redux.

That SB is superb! You are doing great innovative studies, here. Can hardly wait to HEAR it.
