OK
I widened the transition a bit, fixed the black on the back, added a bit of burnt sienna to the back so it was 3 color too
OK
Enough is enough
If I keep it up I will screw it up
It will have to do
No more
I think
Well maybe

OK
Off to the lanfill
Dump day.Wonder what we can find there today.Hmmm, pickguard

Will definitely have to root through the wood pile

Managed to keep Robosander away for the last couple days.
Got another coat of clear on last night.Haven't had a lot of time to work on any builds the last couple days.Oh well, kids in bed, mama is busy on the phone, time to sneak out
Here she sits, waiting for more clear

Had an idea,so I got out the CA glue(need to use it up anyway)
Soaked down one side of another chunk,ripped off a piece,more CA,some sanding,routering and wa-la
This was a bit tricky to do without any tearouts I tell you!!!!

Definitely needs to be a different color, and trimmed up around the horn, but what you think?I'm thinking maybe the 2nd color of the burst????Maybe with
black trim????Maybe like the hybrid Thinline guard?????Maybe not at all?????

Dunno about the pickguard. I did like the rusty plate PG idea, and the roofing tile idea is solid, too. (Especially after many layers of clear coat B) )

There's a CS Strat in the new Frontline InHome that really reminds me of this build, but they put on more and more signs and duct tape, while you're taking it off.

+1. Those were my favorite PG ideas, too. You could burst the CA guard, Marty, and see how it looks, but honestly the other two would look great, IMO.

Decided against the OSB guard on this one.Might use it on the OSBcaster Redux.I still like the idea of some type of rusty something or other

I like the contrast of the "raw" color against the 'burst, so I think several layers of pure clear over that 'guard, or a thin cut-to-match plexi overlay atop it would be the ticket if you pursue that option....but I still like the rusty ol' license plate idee mese'f most of all.

Watchoo thinkin' aboot the control plate materials? Chicken head knobs? some vol/tone dials off an old Philco on a rusty/badly tarnished strip of---what? Bodged-up Teisco-style "goldfoil" p'ups or (paradox) HIGH-end killah booTEEKs 'o some sort (w/trick wiring)?

I vote for blackening the guard, or charring it like you originally did to the edge of the body, but the entire guard.

Not a whole lot to update about
I knocked down a few high spots yesterday with some 400 grit(kept robosander away and unplugged ) and shot it with a couple more coats of clear.
I did manage to find an old tin sign at the dump but it is pretty bent up.Might get a chance to do some more on it today because it is a cool windy rainy day out there.

I sure hope not, because I check in daily. I've really enjoyed it and am looking forward to the whole shebang coming to fruition.

Well not neglecting it as forgetting about it.I am just kind of on hold until I get some more lacquer.Living in the middle of nowhere has it's advantages but one disadvantage is it takes forever to get stuff shipped here

Since I don't feel good tonight I figured it was a good time to get these threads updated.I did manage to get a template made for the string block from Taipan, and then the cavity routed for it.These things look great, and I bet they work even better.

You can see I give it a quick sanding(by hand,NO ROBOSANDER )

It's coming. My lacquer should be here tomorrow so I can continue with the clear. There are a few pretty deep crevasses that I think will stay, hey adds character, but other than that it looks pretty good.

Not Mighty Might lacquer I presume?

Sorry. I just couldn't resist.

That guitar is looking good.

I was sanding some goop tonight and had to go into the house for a minute. I remembered your RoboSander experience and took great pains to make sure the sander was off, unplugged, and not anywhere near the body I had been working on.

Thanks for going to the College of Hard Knocks for me!

Get to feeling better soon.

I vote for a black stain pickgaurd or just nuttin, looks great as is, Make sure you do a sunburst peghead overlay with the same material, would look amazing...

That's certainly one of the more interesting builds, I love the way your final burst came out, really sets off that exotic grain.

The old upholstery tack idea got me thinking of a tan leather bound edge with the upholstery tacks and the branding iron ala Gretsch.
Suggestions are too late now i guess. Maybe next time.
