Meet In The Middle - G bender or B bender?

This guy plays the intro with a stock strat. After I played it I realized it seems like a G-bender makes more sense. Then why does everyone always say this is an amazing B-bender intro??

Jimmy's "main" bender (on the strap button) is a G bender. He has a B bender on the back of the guitar attached via lanyard to a belt loop.

So yeah, when listening to Diamond Rio, the G bender is more likely to be the culprit. But he plays both with astounding skill and musicality.
