Clint Strong Video Tab?
Hey guys,
I recently got given an old video by one of my students by Clint Strong (Haggard's old guitarist) called "Mastering Jazz Licks". I knew this guy could play, but WOW! This is good stuff, and he talks about combining a jazz approach with country changes. However - you guessed it - the booklet has gone astray somewhere. I'm normally pretty good at figuring stuff out just from listening and watching, but this guy is FAST and doesn't really follow any of the nice cosy patterns a lot of us mortals are guilty of using. I've tried to buy a new copy of it (was hoping it'd be on DVD somewhere) but it seems to be out of print. Any of you pickers have this vid and be willing to scan the booklet for a frustrated Irishman? I'd of course be happy to pay for any postage etc. Alternatively, if anyone could tell me where I could get my mitts on a new copy either in Europe or the States that'd be pretty cool... Cheers for your time, folks - keep on pickin'... |

Cheers Dave, I really appreciate it.
And I gotta add - as a country/blues picker starting to move into jazz-tinged territory, your transcription of Brent's "Swing with a Sting" has been incredibly useful. Western Swing can be a difficult genre to just "dip into", but SWAS has given me some insight into how to apply all these chromatic and chord-based lines over an actual progression. Outstanding work my friend! (PS The "Hot Wired" stuff is pretty amazing too...) Good luck with the tax returns... |

Off the top of my head, "Pterodactyl Ptales" and "I Don't Care Anymore" have great Clint Solos. As mentioned above, the Freddie Powers stuff is available, too; I think "The Country Jazz Singer" is definitive Clint.

Thanks, I was able to find both Pterodactle Ptales and The Country Jazz Singer on iTunes. It's great to find this stuff and I appreciate the help.

Clint Strong Solo Tabs
I managed to dig up a couple of Clint Strong transcriptions I made a few years ago. Included are Powertabs of I Don't Care Anymore and Ida Red solos. I also included audio clips of the solos in the zip.

Thank you! I downloaded power tab and opened them up. Great work and cool application. I like how you specified the chord for each measure. I am grateful. Who are some of your favorites to cop licks from? |

OK, we overcame the odds and by the efforts of generous people came up with the Clint booklet. I have another challenge...anybody have the booklet for the Brent Mason Nashville chops and western swing guitar video?
Have you heard this guy? What do you think? I've been trying to buy his album Hot Wired but don't see it on iTunes or Amazon. I emailed Brian W who is managing Brents web site but he just responded with "Did you hear his latest album?" I responded with yes where can I find Hot Wired and again he responded with "Did you hear his latest album?" I don't know what the deal is with that. Update: Turns out Hot Wired is out of print. You can get them many places in dvd now rather than the old style vhs tape. Three sites I know for sure carry it are guitarcenter.com, cduniverse.com and also amazon.com. They are brand new and include the booklet. The price ranges from $16.95 - $24.95 depending on where you buy it.
