What scale for surf guitar?

Any surfers here? I'm listening to Dick Dale and wondering what scale is primarily used to gat that sound. You know Miserlou, etc. I just got a 63 Reverb RI and want to put it to good use!
Thanks!

well, there's no one quintessential surf scale, but for miserlou...

try E F G# A B C Eb

which would be 1, b2, 3, 4, 5, b6, 7, which i'm sure has a name, but i don't know it...

edit:

ha, just found this...

I'm no expert and play scales based on the chords. I'm pretty sure Walk Don't Run is A, G, F, E.

I digress here, but check out the Duo-Tones acoustic surf tracks if you at like the genre or respect quality playing.

Good luck.

Misirlu is a Turkish song originally (Dale is of Turkish Jewish decent I believe).
The scale has many names - Hijaz Kar or Maquam Zengule (I swear I'm not making this up). Sometimes you'll see it going by the names Double Harmonic Major, Persian, Rag Paraj, Byzantine (mode 2), Bhairav that, and probably a few others.
That scale has a TON of harmonic and melodic potential.

I've heard it called the Arabic Scale.

Phrygian Dominant is pretty close, 1,b2,3,4,5,b6,b7 i think. but it only has 1 augmented 2nd interval.

Someone here posted this link awhile back: http://www.all-guitar-chords.com/guitar_scales.php

You can select the tonic and scale, and it will bring up a visual representation of the scale on the fingerboard. I really had no idea there were so many varieties and ethnic scales till I saw this site.
