Help w/ Mason lick

In Brent Mason's "Hot Licks" video, there is a part he plays with the band on the Stratocaster. He does alot of double note descending slides or something like that. Will somebody please educate me on what this is, the theory behind it, & how do I learn to do it? Any help is appreciated.

Hey Bsnook,

I don't have the tape right now (its back in San Diego), but I believe he's just using a bunch of double stops a la Cornell Dupree. Do you have Arlen Roth's "Masters of the Telecaster"? If so, its a lot like that Cornell Dupree section, as I remember. See what you come up with, Ward

I remember a little better what he was doing...

So you take a double stop scale like this in A

these are just major and minor thirds
A Bm C#m D E F#m G#m
now there's a million things you can do, like this

now throw in some chord shapes

These double stops are jazzy sounding because, besides beings 3rds of each other, there 6ths if you look the other way

now use some bends

As you can see the possibilities are endless. You can use other double stop patterns as well, and use chord shapes to your advantage
