Doug Seven Triads Mindset ?

I see Doug 7 has a new DVD release called Triad Mindset or similar.

Has anyone any idea if this is a similar learning approach to Kirk Lorange's "Planetalk" method ?

Might be worth a look.

I just finished looking at that promo.

I had the Lorange book many years ago and found it to be lacking. The Doug Seven material is guaranteed (I would think) to be much, much more in depth with a lot more direction on how to practice the material. The Lorange book was basically his version of CAGED and although that has a direct relationship to learning triads I'm betting the Doug Seven course is much more useful and you will undoubtedly see (and it may even be explicitly taught by Doug Seven) the CAGED pattern. My money's on Mr. Seven hands down.

Thanks Boneyguy,

That was my gut feeling too. I have just pulled the trigger on Doug's latest offering.

(not affiliated with Doug 7 in any way.)

I've got it, not exactly teaching CAGED system.
More shapes, mostly 3 or 4 moveable shapes for triads, with examples and practce tips, tab and backing tracks.
Same stuff as CAGED, but not so hung up on all the shapes or theory.
Very useful I thought.

Thanks Telex,

I've got all Doug's DVDs. This sounds like a must have too.

I've also got Kirk's Planetalk but never really connected with it.

Looking forward to getting it.

I'm really interested in this course, but I wish he would put up a clip from the dvd to see what he is offering. I've been burned so many times after buying guitar courses based on the instructors hype video that I no longer order anything without seeing a sample of the product.

Buster B Jones did a great video on the CAGED system a few years back...that's where I learned it.

I figured Doug Seven's is probably similar, so I didn't buy. Not to knock Doug, I have 3 of his videos and I'm very pleased. He has a knack for connecting with the student even though it's a dvd.

I haven't seen it, but like his other videos it's probably well worth the $.

(I'm not connected with Doug Seven either!)

My only issue with the Triads Mindset series so far is: not all of those shapes are triads

x x 5 x x x
x x x 7 x x
x x x x 8 x

That's not a G Triad, there's no 3

The Guitar Gym triad exercises from Truefire are, in my opinion, maybe a better starting place for just learning triads over the entire fretboard, in all inversions. But always great to see them applied to specific genres and styles after you start to get them under your fingers.

Yes you can, quite easily.
The download files are in mp4 format and can be dragged into iTunes without any conversion. If you prefer to wait for the dvd's to arrive, they also can be loaded into iTunes.

I just found time to check out Doug's latest offering online. You get access to the lessons online as well as a shipped DVD.

First thing I noticed is the DVD quality and overall production is 100% better than some of his earlier stuff.

Looks good.

I get the very strong impression that D7 isn't just slogging some low grade product for the sake of making a quick buck. My impression is that he really does put a lot of effort, design and quality knowledge into these courses he sells. I think he's a skilled teacher as well as a really great player. Hard to beat that combo.

And I don't have any affiliation with the Douger.....just speakin' my thoughts.

I've watched all of the videos, but only spent a little time so far playing with the ideas.

Although you can see that his triad shapes are based on the CAGED chords, he doesn't talk about CAGED at all. The series of videos starts with him showing you a sequence of triads in G and then in A and then showing you examples of how to use them in different ways. He then goes on to show examples of a variety of ways to use a few triads in a chord progression.

This isn't really a how-to video where he tabs out every lick & you learn a bunch of licks. It's more like a lesson where he gives you some tools & expects you to experiment with those tools & learn how to use them for yourself.

I would call this an intermediate level lesson for people who can grasp the concepts without a lot of step-by-step instruction & then take the ideas and run with them.

I think it's defintely worth the $40 he's offering it for right now (until Sunday, IIRC).
