What really make a good chord progression is the rhythm you play it with. You can make a standard Am C F sound amazing with just the right rhythm.

Yeah cool, huh! And then make that 2nd chord a sus2, grab your capo, and you can be a successful guitarist in CCM land.

I like classic metal songs like 'Dogs of War' off of Built to destroy album by Michael Schenker (MSG) but at the first of the song he's just hitting
e--------------
b-----8-----------
g-9---7----------
d-9---9---------
a-7---7------
e-0---0-------
Just E5 to the old Emin7 but over a loud distorted amp,and then the lead and the way he
just adds the layers to the song to build it up is just cool..great vocals, great Lead phrasing=Rocking song! No mindless noodling on that album,"Red skys" is cool..this is the same album that has "Captain Nemo" too..dated perhaps, yet classic I still like Ten Years After songs too..to me it's more than just some cool progression.
It's the rhythm, lyrics, production, tone, but yeah if you ain't got no riff, you ain't got no song!

Just a little piece off of the tail end of the main riff to
"Bark at the moon" what is neat is this little passing chord
Jake E.Lee uses. here it's used as a chord partial to take up
two beats instead of one.
But you would want to have it already fingered and not "FLAM" the chord.
Not sure what you would call the chord "G7add 9"?

e:-----5-----------(5)------
b:-6---6-8/10------(6)------
g:-5-4---7/9-------(4)------
d:-3-5---5/7-------(5)------
a:---------0--------------
e:------------------------

G7add9 is simply G9. If the b7 (F) were absent, then it would be Gadd9, AKA G2.

oh cool well now I know.. I really like that chord you listed Jazztele, the G7alt..are you using you using your pinky to hold down "B" and the "Eb" on the third and second strings?
either way it makes a cool 5th chord..The Mickey Baker book teaches that chord but he doesn't add the high e so yeah cool extension. I'm thinking

e:--5--3---10/11-10/11--8-----8--------8<-----------------
b:--6--4---7/8----7/8-----11-8--8--11-8<lot's of Whammy!!!
g:--5--4-------------------------8--10--------------------
d:--x--3-------------------------9--9---------------------
a:--5--x-------------------------10-10--------------------
e:-----3-------------------------8------------------------

You might have fun with this:
02010x...02020x...05040x...04020x...back to the 02010x and repeat

then shift up to
x02020...x02030...x05050...x02030...repeat and back to the above.

I like to travis pick the triads (xx201xx...xx202xx...xx504xx...xx402xx etc.).
Lots of simple variations, travel on up the neck, work it into a blues prog etc.

I grab the low G with my thumb...it's a G7#5 or G7b13, depending on context...here it'a b13.
