Gonna order it tomorrow! ...and start practicing, of course...

Dr. Radio,
One of the secrets to Link Wray's playing is the use of the Stealth Slide. You might want to investigate it. Neat way to mix slide and pickin'.

Woooo- did I have my head up and locked. Will Ray is the stealth slider.
Link is THE MAN. Remember, Link basically invented the power chord. So when playing the D chord on Rumble, you leave the high E string open. That's the connecting tone to the subsequent E. It's beauty in it's simplicity. The tension of the 7th on the D resolves to the E chord. Link often starts off the tonic and resolves. Like on Jack the Ripper. Opening lick is merely EEEA on the open strings. What's cool is he plays it over a b7 -1 progession. Link Wray's playing is so simple and yet so thoughtfull it sometimes practically brings tears to my eyes when I figure out something he did and understand his way of thinking. On Run Chicken Run, the secret again is to use the open E on the D chord, thus freeing up a finger to do the little boogie lick on the bottom. The solo stuff is pretty much basic surf 101, with lots of tritones and barres. Try 8 7 5 5 - from a barre on the 5th to start a solo and see what happens. With Link Wray, forget the blues stuff. Link is all about attitude. Period. Push and pull around the beat. Have fun, and go with the flow. Chuck
