EBEEBE tuning

Ok, I'm having some trouble here. Is this E Modal, or the Bruce Palmer Modal?

Or is that the same thing?

Some sites online say this tuning is EEEEBE and/or EBEEBE..

(I'm obviously not too well versed in alternate tunings, although I do love me some Open G)

Anyway, I'd like to try it out, and I was wondering if anyone here played in this tuning and could offer suggestions as to good online sources for getting started, chord info, etc.

Thanks Don! I really dig CSN(and Y), and that was one of the reasons I wanted to try it out

"Jumpin' Jack Flash" is tuned like this but somewhat flat. Not exactly Eb, but lower than E. All tunings are modal in some way - the major scale is the Ionian mode, after all. People tend to use "modal" to indicate ambiguity between minor and major. This is simply E5 tuning.

Maybe I'll have better luck googling E5 tuning

Well, I think the CSN&Y tuning is called E modal. Guitar players tend to come up with their own terminology. Even that is a form of E5 tuning.

mal, do you really find it odd that no one here plays out of this tuning? I only ever heard of one guy using it - Keith Richards, and only one using EEEEBE - Stephen Stills. Kind of a waste of a guitar to keep it tuned like this for two songs, it seems to me.

I do occasionally tune to both EEEEBE and EBEEBE. No idea what they're called though.
When I do , it's more for a My Bloody Valentine sound rather than CSN. A couple of their songs (To Here Knows When for example) are based on this tuning so I usually just mess around with the chord shapes for them. You get plenty of droning notes going on.

To get the correct sound you have to gaze at your shoes too.

I think it´s referred to as "Open E5 Tuning" in some guitar magazines. The tune "Carry On" from CSNYs album Deja Vu has the same tuning, only tuned down a half step.In some transcriptions "Love the One You´re With" is notated in Open C5 Tuning.

Hey Noby thanks! I'm going for the MBV thing too, but I didn't think that would get any responses

JB, yeah, I do find it odd. There are 80,000+ members here, all different playing styles and techniques. I didn't think this tuning was that unusual, but maybe it is

Thanks for your help everybody
