Wish you had a video - the only roy nichols I know is what I got off the Brent Mason video. You know...that muted triad walk down the fretbord. And those silly fills he'd do sometimes that were almost comical, or cartoonish.

I'll get a video up soon for it. Haven't done a lot of that yet.

Also I'll get a YouTube channel with the originals of these. Roy was great, his style def brings a smile to your face! Thanks for checking it out.

that's a cool lesson, although I believe that "Lonesome Fugitive" was originally played in the studio by James Burton, not Nichols

AJ I think you're right. These licks are all from that live album though. The details on those first several Haggard albums are pretty murky. But yea it was Burton originally not Nichols.

Cool site you have Samrsmiley! Esteemed TDPRI member,Ole wichita, did a great service to our community and the contributions of Burton and Nichols by compiling a list of who did what and where with Haggard....you can view the entire thread here..http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaste...n-haggard.html

ROY NICHOLS electric

because you can't be mine
the train never stops
love has a mind of it's own
run em off
i'll always know
you still have a place
money tree
you'll never love me now
walkin' the floor over you

JAMES BURTON electric

the longer you wait
the bottle let me down'
i can't stand me
someone else you know
i'll lover over you
mixed up mess of a heart
lonesome fugitive
life in prison
all of me
if you want to be my woman
someone told my story
whatever happened to me
loneliness is eating me alive
skid row
drink up and be somebody
gone crazy

ROY NICHOLS and JAMES BURTON together electric/acoustic/dobro

mama tried
little ole wine drinker me
green green grass of home
i think we're living in the good ole days
who do i know in dallas
folsom prison blues
too many bridges to cross over
i'm bringing home good news
who'll buy the wine
silver wings

ROY NICHOLS acoustic

strangers
the worst is yet to come
piedras negras (2nd version)
if i had left it up to you
i'm gonna break every heart i can
if i could be him
shade tree
this town's not big enough
you don't have far to go
if you see my baby
don't get married
my hands are tied
sing me back home
the son of hickory holler's tramp
good times
my ramona
legend of bonny and clyde
is this the beginning
sunny side of life

JAMES BURTON dobro

high on a hilltop
no more you and me

JAMES BURTON acoustic

piedras negras

ROY NICHOLS and JAMES BURTON together acoustic/dobro

in the good ole days
lookin' for my mind
i could have gone right
the day the rains came
somewhere on skid row
i take a lot of pride
i just want to look at you
keep me from crying today
i can't hold myself in line
i'm free
it meant goodbye to me
she thinks i still care
what's wrong with staying home

That solo sounds great, but it's definitely not the same solo that was from "Okie From Muskogee." I love Dario's site, so much great stuff on there man...

I didn't realize James Burton played on the original recording too?
