Songs that work great in C first position
I am looking for songs that work particularly well in C first position. I am learning guitar with a teacher now and we decided to start at the very beginning. I currently am learning 2 classical pieces, but i want to do some more stuff so maybe you guys could throw some songs at me that work great in C first position...
Thanks! |

At band practice last night we dissected "My Girl"...the Temps version...to tighten up the fills/transition between verses, and the modulation...the tune is recorded in C and lays well in first position...particularly the major pentatonic signature line...it modulates to D...its a good one to work on the Motown rhythm, the major pentatonic walk ups, the whole step modulation, and the walk down on the coda....and you can use first position chords all the way thru...

How about Jimmy Brown? A great melody and easy to learn "basic" version, it's typically played up in seventh gear but uses "C" chords.

Tom Petty "Learning to Fly" - F, C, Am, G. Over and over and over.
Cee Lo Green "F*$k You" is C, D7, F and despite the funky vamps, it works pretty well with open chords. Another fun one is Camper Van Beethoven "Take The Skinheads Bowling" - C, Fmaj7, and G. And finally, you can do a decent version of U2 "One" in open position - Am, Dsus2, Fmaj7, G for the verse and C, Am, Fmaj7, and C for the chorus. Tim |

yup- wild horses is mostly in first position. or the version I play is, but I think it is actually keyed in F due the the Bb chord. But then again, the version I play may not be correct. I do have the correct version of Angie but I can't tell you off the top of my head what key as but I'm pretty sure it is not C either. I think is may be F as well, the more I think about it. No wonder those songs aer so hard to sing for me. But I could be wrong.
