Noteflight....awesome!!

I'm probably a little late to the game as usual but who else is using Noteflight as found at noteflight.com?

I'm just beginning to use and understand the FREE version. What an awesome program.

It's a music notation and playback program that is very user friendly.

My reason for using it is that I want to notate scale, arpeggio and melodic exercises that I can play along with. Also I can notate and store my own licks etc. Pitch and tempo can be adjusted on the fly.

The notation can be in both standard and tab and it will automatically convert one to the other so you can have the tab under the standard notation (or above for that matter) if you wish. It will also notate bends, hammer ons, pull offs, palm mute etc.

The quality of the instrumental playback sounds good as well. You can have piano, guitar, drums, strings, woodwind, brass, bass.

Another thing that's cool is that all your files are stored online and not on your computer. This makes it easy to share files if you're working with other people. You can select them to be private just like any file hosting site.

I've only been farting around with it for a couple of hours but I'm really excited about the possibilities it offers for practice.

Guitar Pro is pretty good at this as well. I used to use it all the time to "test run" arrangements without having to actually record a bunch of different instruments to see what they sound like together. Then I got a mac and can't get it to work anymore :(

I'm really late to the game. I just found out about it today. I like it!!! I'm trying to work out the harmony parts for a song, and it took me probably ten minutes (if that) to generate this.

I always have a Word document open on my computer that I use as a notepad. I copy and paste links, info, anything that comes to mind that I want to remember. I do the same thing with Finale. I have a single guitar staff that I use for licks, ideas, exercises. If I want to use other instruments in a band format, I just make a new file for that. Sometimes I'll take a screenshot of the score and pasted it into the Word file. Because I use a laptop downstairs in the dining room and bedroom, and a desktop upstairs in my studio, I email these files back and forth. It's a pretty handy setup. I'm going to start using an online storage system soon, as it seems that's where things are headed.
