B. Paisley is playing "I'm Gonna Miss Her" in a different key live now

When he recorded the track on the album and for years he would perform the song live in the key of F# Maj. Now he's playing it live in the key of G.

I can't imagine why. Granted, G is a lot easier of a key to play in, simply for simplicity sake for improvising. F# has a lot of sharps. G only has 1.

But i liked it better when he played in F#. Playing in that key had a certain flavor that really made the song for me.

I've noticed that Paisley's singing ability keeps getting better & better... no idea if that relates to this topic but perhaps its easier for him to sing it in G?

I don't think having keys that are easier to play in has much bearing for him.

I think its about singing value and how the song sounds a half step higher.

I agree with this, considering it is Brad Paisley. Some singers like to push their range and become comfortable singing a little higher. It gives the song more feeling, IMO...

Notes toward the top and bottom of the vocal range are naturally harder to sing accurately than the ones in the middle.

I don't know about anyone else, but during a long gig my voice starts to get tired. The notes get even harder to nail. Even a half step up helps a lot.

Of course, there's always auto tune.
