Sorry.........your post says "Houston area". Last time I checked Missouri City is in the Houston area. And you're absolutley right....you don't wanna get mixed up with any "guitar teacher" that would dare to us "books and stuff"......hhmmmm
Good Luck......you've got a long search ahead of you.

It's at the bottom of Missouri City, now if it was closer i might of considered.

I just have a funny feeling the books might be mel bay lol.

Plus the price is ridiculous...especially for me to drive all the way.

thanks for the suggestion though.

Geez, you really need to learn to play both kinds of guitar....country AND western.

I used to have tons of students like you, pard. Trust me. Someone will take your money. Most of my kids though just wanted to, let's see; rip/grind/shred/wail/jam/kick out the jams/....I forget the rest. Ask me how many are capable to actually play, play with someone or play well enough to play in public? Most quit. Some just wanted to know some chords so when they got stoned they could get all the chicks. A few didn't come back when lesson 1 was how to tune the guitar. And who the heck is Mel Bay anyway? Too back they are kind of the standard and have been for what, 50 years? More? I'm really not as old as I come across.

Just learn to play guitar. Apply it however you see fit. Learn something about music. But anyone that offers country lessons or heavy metal lessons or whatever kind of crap is out there nowadays, run. Don't walk, run. Or is it walk, don't run? No, that's not country.

Might I recommend "Zen Guitar" by Philip Toshio Sudo. Maybe it'll help maybe it won't ... but, it's certainly given me a different perspective in my approach to guitar.

Wow your a piece of work aren't you?

I've been playing for 10 years. Im familiar with Western Swing, Jazz. I just wanted to find a guitar teacher more experienced with the chickn picken country and chet atkins/merle travis fingerstyle playing.

I dont shred and I dont need mel bay anymore.

Some of you need a real attitude adjustment.

I was thinking the same thing. 10 whole years. Wow, good for you. For most folks that sort of info would have been helpful in the OP. Saying you want to add a different or specific style to your playing is different than saying you want to take country guitar lessons.

Have you seen the Doug Seven course he sells? One on one with an instructor is always better but you'll have to dig them out on your own, like someone you've seen play.

Best wishes. With your attitude and sense of humor you should go far. It's a well know fact all famous guitar players are a chore to be around. At least, my wife tells me I am and I am a legend in my own mind.

Hi there 'I own a tele.'
I have found a lot of cool arrangements of Chet and Merle Travis tunes (and other standards in solo guitar style etc...) on this website http://www.acousticfingerstyle.com/index.html
Anyway, it's a great resource- hundreds of arrangements on there.

i had the same experience a few years ago. i live in houston, have been playing for 30 years and consider myself a dilettante country player. i ran ads on craigslist and asked every country player i knew if they could direct me to someone that really knows country licks and teaches. nada! i spoke with quite a few teachers but none of them played country or had a better grasp than i did. i ended up just trolling youtube and learning parts from there. also, i think he's hard to keep up with, but doug seven has some good tutorials you can download along with the tabs.

If the berries in the smoothies have no seeds then you have no sense of humor. Crap, now I want a smoothie. Where's my m16?

Do you like Buck Owens and the Buckaroos. If so , go to the thread titled "Being Don Rich" on this Forum.. A great resource for pentatonic twang...bridges rock and/or roll with country and Western, Cali style country boy rock n roll...
