Vince Gill - High Lonesome Sound - Guitar Solo

Man...guitar playing is easy compared to figuring out the tabs.

This is from the solo at 2:00. This is the from the 1996 High Lonesome Sound album. It's not the bluegrass version. It's fairly accurate I think. If there are any experienced "tabbers" (if that's a word) out there I'd love it if you'd take a look and tell me what mistakes I've made.

Pretty nice job. I am not a great tabber, but I do a couple things a little different on this solo. For example, in bar 7, I slide up to the 7th fret of the A string for the E note you have as 2nd fret on the D string. I think I can hear Vince sliding up to the note. I also hear the note on the 6th fret of the G string sliding down to the 5th then the 3rd fret after the double stop in measure 14.

Here's how I think the intro goes.

jbmando..

Thanks for this. I do think, however, that there is a slide up to a pedal steel like in C
at your 1:30 mark...

7 bend 7 release

in that vein.....formatting seems to prevent me from typing the tab

Well, I did missplay that section when I played it through, but when I was breaking it down I put it in. I didn't hear a bend there, but it could be. I was pretty sure I copped the whole thing very close.

I made some changes in the tab in bars 5 and 6. I was hearing something wrong or not hearing something, but I think it's right now. Here's a corrected video as well.

jbmando...

that is right on with one exception, I think.

there is still that steel bend off the 5th string at the 10th fret...with the full bend on the 3rd string 7th fret (D up to E)

see tab attached...3rd measure

I don't hear that at all. I hear it exactly like I tabbed it.

Hi guys ! I was watching this thred and I love it cause you go into deep details. So I wanted to add my opinnion also. Here it is .
Basic melody is the same as jb's ,but I have added some addiotional stuff ,
such as hammer ons pull offs, double stops, dead notes and a little different positions on the fretboard that I believe I hear.
It's a song that I hadn't noticed before ,and after digging so deep , I like it very much. Thanks guys.

I guess that works, but the 8th fret/2nd string and the 5th fret/3rd string notes (forming double stops) in the 7th bar of your tab aren't on the record. In the 8th bar, the third string hammer-on from open to 2 then sliding up from 3 to 5 is not there either. It's just open, hammer-on to 3, hammer-on to 5. I didn't tab the hammer-ons, just the notes. They can be picked but hammer-ons sound good too.

I told the guy that asked me to tab this that I am not the world's greatest tabber. I don't know all the little notations to use, and I tend to forget stuff like making sure to put in a hammer-on or a pull-off, and I'm not saying yours doesn't sound cool, but I am trying to tab/play what is on the record. I know what I don't hear and I think I do come real close. Of course none of us hacks can play or sound like Vince Gill.

jb I agree with you that none of us can play like Vince, so we just put down our opnion from what we hear . Thank you for your comments and your time to read my tab.
