Best software to slow lead licks for pc?

Hello, all.

I see a wide spectrum of reviews on the various software products out there that slow down youtube videos or DVD's so you can learn lead licks more easily.

Any thoughts, opinions or recommendations on what to look for? I am looking to spend something around or up to $50. Free stuff would, of course, be very cool.

Thanks in advance.

I suppose I should specify that I am looking to watch VIDEOS run a bit slower so that I can watch hand technique, but I can probably get by with a standard music DVD (slowed down, of course), and tabs.

I am seeing plenty of talented renditions of Eric Johnson, John Petrucci that give me envy.

Chicken picking vids are also my target.

Thanks again.

"Transcribe!" does do videos too, and it's what I use. Though maybe it doesn't do FLV? I don't really use for with videos, as the videos distract me.

"Best Practice" is free, though.

I use Transcribe, too. True, it won't play FLV files, but there are plenty of free programs that will convert them to mp4, which Transcribe will play.
You can download a trial version of Transcribe to see if it works for you. The latest version was just released at seventhstring.com. It is easy to use and has many useful features such as pitch control, measure and beat markers, and looping.

How about a free one? VLC media player will slow down playback and maintain pitch. It will also play .flv's.

It is my primary media player on my computer.

Audacity works really nicely for audio and it's free and I use VLC on my Ubuntu box all the time.

I mostly export the FLV to mp3 and then use audacity.

Speaking of which (and I don't mean to steer off topic on my own thread), How do I make VLC my primary media player? I can't stand Windows media player.

Start VLC, press CTRL + P (or go to the Tools menu -> Settings). About mid-page there's a button to configure file associations. Just associate all file types in the list to VLC and you're done.

That looks like a good one. But will it download YouTube videos?

If your running Firefox there is an add on "YouTube to MP3" for music only and "Easy YouTube Video Downloader" that does flv's as well as other formats.

VLC does have a version for the Mac.

Enjoy!!
