Being Waylon Jennings...any takers?

Well, seeing as how the awesome "Being Don Rich" thread is into page 5 now, who is willing to pitch in on a Waylon thread? C'mon, share your tabs, tips, tricks, videos, gear, settings, etc. How do you get that unique Waylon sound and style?

a phaser sure helps, I use an Electro-Harmonix Small Stone phase shifter, n that does it for me. aside from that, I don't know how to explain his sound. He just played witha raw stripped down style that really works for any kind of music really. He sure had some cool licks, check out "Big Ball's in Cowtown" off of Waylon Live-The Expanded Edition" and listen to all the stuff he's doing there. Wicked guitar playing, he's my favorite pickerall of all time! RIP Waymore

Waylon really never got credit for his influence on musicians as a guitar player. His guitar playing was overshadowed by his great voice.Waylon Jennings was a great musician whose influence will stand the test of time.

The best advice I can think of to get a Waylon Jennings feel is: lock into a solid groove and DON'T OVERPLAY. Think "play less notes, leave more space" ...something all country players should do, IMO.

Hey, I wrote out the tab to the version of mental revenge above. If anyones interested I'll try and post it. It's the intro and solo, and i can post the chords as well of course.

Love the "Mental Revenge" lick... please away so I can compare it to how I play it off the cuff! I'd love to see as many tabbed out "Hoss" intros and solos as any of y'all have. Woop woop!

All I know about Waylon is he had a cool lookin' Broadcaster, and narrated those Duke boys. Curious to know more.

I like the liner notes of one of his old albums that said he "sang like he had three balls."

Always loved "Mental Revenge." Anyone know if Jennings wrote it himself?

I love waylon and I think I've worn out Ol Waylon about three times (the record and cd)

my favorite waylon is with some phaser on... doin' Thats Alright Mama in E just scrubbin' a couple of three strings at a time and what my bandmates call 'the waylon lick' a little finger muting is a good thing here.

B|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
G|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|
D|---2--2-PO-----2-----2--2 PO------------------------------------------|
A|--------------2-------------------2---------------------------------------|
E|---------------------------------------------------------------------------|

when you get to the A, you just move it to the G string.. and the B, you go up the neck two frets...

a great way to get yer Waylon on.

Love Waylon's music, I'll be following this closely. Does anybody know the little solo in Amanda. It sounds simple but I can't get it.

My contribution

I know for a fact nobody will want this, but I did it anyway. Its the intro to the television performance version of "Brown Eyed Handsome Man"

Basically your garden variety little steely licks, but Waymore style.
