Does anybody know where I can find someone who makes the leather guitar covers like Waylon had? I want to do a tributr guitar in honor of my hero. A few years back, I saw someone advertise them, and it might have even been the guy who made them for Waymore. Anybody got an idea?

It goes over great live. You have no idea. Even if people don't know the song the beat brings em in. When I holler "Take it Home" the madness begins.

That's cool! I love the subtle work on drums and guitar, and the harmonies help make it such a great song.

Waylon's tone?

How do you get that unique Waylon sound and style?

I'm still trying to figure out where to buy a hat like his...
Then I'll work on his tone.

I got the Nashville Rebel Boxset: Wow!
I also picked up the Waylon Live: expanded edition C.D.. Probably one of the coolest live albums of all time. Has 42 songs on it. Everyone of them great.

Let me know if you find the hat. As for the tone, I think it's in the fingers more than anything else, but a tele or nocaster + Fender amp + a phaser dialed in subtly helps.

You ain't lying!! Last Friday I played it live in CHICAGO!!!

It went over big time.

My favorite line is: "I've seen the world with a five piece band
looking at the back side of me."

The two solos are a blast to play. Just dig in and let 'er rip.

Tell your band if they can't sell a two chord tune to a crowd, maybe they should switch to an easier going past time such as wood burning or stamp collecting.

That concert is on dvd, it's just been repackage with a new name. It also contains a biography on Waylon that aired on A&E. The Name of the Dvd is "Waylon Jennings Rennegade, Outlaw, Legend"

I saw Waylon in Indianapolis in about '76 and he was using one of those Maestro phasers with the multi-color rocker switches on it, and it was on a mic stand (Had an adaptor on the bottom through a tall Fender amp, maybe a Super Six).

I should add this I suppose. In 1964, on summer evenings mostly, we used to go see Waylon at JD's. JD's was a huge two story bar just North of ASU on Scottsdale Road dug into the side of the bank of the old Salt River at the edge of Scottsdale. Upstairs was Waylon downstairs was somebody else... like Johnny Rivers for ex. Scottsdale road was a narrow two laner. The sign at JD's read "Waylon Live" if he was going to be there that night. You couldn't park anywhere near the place, so you drove off the road and parked out in the dry Salt River bed away from the road some, and then hoofed it a block to the bar.
I was 16 so of course I couldn't get in to the bar, so we would have 2-3 Coors (we were BIG drinkers in those days) and wait till about 2:15 AM. They picked up the booze and for $2? I think you could get in to after hours. Waylon played till near dawn.

I would sit up pretty close and watch him play, and then go home and try to figure it out? Good luck. One night I finally asked him on a break why it didn't sound right and he kinda smiled a smirky kinda' thing, but friendly and good, and replied "Try dropping that low E to D, that'll do it." First I'd ever heard of that. Mostly I play drop D now. There was no leather covered Tele that I recall. He had a straight old blond Tele. I had no clue I witnessed history or something so special.

My first post but this waylon thread grabbed my attention. For the past year I have had the distinct honr of being able to play lead guitar with waylons little brother tommy jennings and in that time I have had the experience of a life time being able to talk with a man who was there he played bass for waylon at jd he knew buddy I mean he was really there. But the one thing I learned from him that I had never heard mentioned anwhere is that the pickups on waylons number one are wired out of phase.
After tommy told me this I double checked a lot of waylon footage and sure enough his switch is often set in the middle position.
Just my two cents

PapaLion...that is too cool. I use dropped D on my guitar pretty often as well. It definitly puts you in a different frame of mind...pulls the fretboard back a little bit , while still looking forward, if that makes sense. Guitar tips from ol Waylon...er.. young Waylon! Think I'll go play along to "Dreaming my Dreams" now...

TeleJake, thanks for that post. I put up a thread wondering about the wiring and pickups on #1 in the earlier years, and after reading your post I realized I had heard that same thing (the pickups were wired out of phase), from someone or maybe it is in his book?

Waylon had his own TV show on channel 5, which was the independent station in Phoenix. This was early 60's, it was black and white TV, kinda' simplistic, one or two cameras and the sound came and went some. The boys had slicked back greaser hair and duck tails:) I wonder if that film was ever saved? Tommy might have a clue where that film is? They were on Wallace and Ladmo too once in awhile, but I digress:)
