Online Fretboard Diagram Tool
Here is something I built to help with some online scale/chord/fretboard theory discussions I've had recently. It's still a work in progress, but I've found it useful even in it's current incarnation.
It's not intended to be a chord or scale finder/library - its simply meant to be a sketch pad for illustrating scales/chords quickly for chat or forum use. Basic empty fretboard… http://www.guitarfu.com/tools/fretboard/index.html Minor Pentatonic First Position http://www.guitarfu.com/tools/fretbo...49|61|63|75|78 Major Pentatonic http://www.guitarfu.com/tools/fretbo...50|61|64|76|78 You can make your own by hitting the Clear button and adding fretted notes by clicking (if you click more than once, you can add finger numbering and an X). Cut and paste the URL that's generated in the text area below the fretboard or hit the create tinyURL grab the address from the field to the left. (If you make a complicated diagram with lots of notes, using the TinyURL is useful). |

Check this one out too. It's a little program written in 1990 that I've used a million times, and it's still out on the net
Pretty cool, you can select the key, mode, and then it shows all of the note positions, intervals, and note number. And you can print it out too. Guitar.Exe Cheers, Doug |

Thanks for the comments! I appreciate it.
Chords.exe is REALLY good stuff too. I use it a lot as well. My goal with this was really just to create something that you could quickly link to in a chat room/forum (mainly chat room) when you are discussing theory - there is all kinds of room for improvement. (The ability to print is on my list, and the ability to display intervals based on key... and notes based on tuning... label the diagram... etc. ) |

I prefer the printable, customizable, ones at
http://www.studybass.com/tools/chord...-note-printer/ Any number of strings, any tuning, any number of frets. Peace, Mike. |

Thanks mkorsmo,
Was looking for a program like this. You have more features planned for this program? Do you take requests? 1) Add note name instead of finger numbering 2) Allow user to set the range of the freetboard. ex: display only frets 0-4. 3) Have a block dot in addition to orange/green/blue/red Thanks again!!! |

The fretboard automatically knows the note names (as it depends on what instrument/tuning your fretboard is set to) - all you have to do is set the fretboard "Note marker labels" option in the Inspector to "Notes"! Also check out the Legend feature; e.g. you can have chord dots show fingerings and also display note names below the strings. There's a new release coming very soon, which adds even more flexibility in this area, e.g. you'll be able to control which dots show notes/intervals/fingerings, and even mix them up! Hope that helps!! Justin |

This is cool. I have a document of pictures of scales/modes that I keep on my blackberry so I can look them up easily. I've been using a picture editor to create the jpgs. This will be much, much easier. (Found a blackberry app for chords, but not one for scales.)
